Originalmente, Alicia iba a cantar una balada lenta titulada "Beyond the Laughing Sky", y era una canción sobre Alicia soñando con un nuevo mundo, muy en al estilo de Dorothy Gale en El Mago de Oz. Sin embargo, Kathryn Beaumont tenía dificultades para cantar, y se decidió que empezar la película con una balada lenta sería un poco arriesgado para el público. La canción "In a World of My Own" es más animada y era más fácil de cantar para Beaumont.
