Every Disney film takes place in some kind of setting or universe. For instance, Beauty and the Beast takes place in presumably 18th century France, Hercules is set in ancient Greece, and Big Hero 6 is in some sort of futuristic fusion of Asia and America. Now The Lion King takes place on the African plains, but because of the lack of humans or technology, it could fit into any modern time period and thus gives off a timeless feel.
But do humans exist in the world of The Lion King? That is the question. The only installment of this franchise where humans have appeared is in the spinoff TV series The Lion King's Timon & Pumbaa, which ran from 1995-1999. A good portion of episodes feature the meerkat-warthog duo travelling the world and interacting with humans, penguins, bears, etc. Given the show's slapstick cartoony nature emulated from The Animaniacs and Ren & Stimpy, it is labelled by many as non-canon.
Okay, there was one story in the old magazine series that implied the existence of humans (or as they were called, Watu), but I received word that it was non-canon as well. Back to the point, perhaps someone within TLK universe does know about human existence...two someones to be precise. I'm talking about Timon and Pumbaa.
The aforementioned TV series aside, the duo have mentioned and done things in other installments of the franchise that could just imply they've encountered humans, mostly for brief comedic purposes. In the first movie, Timon eats a grub (to the disgust of young Simba) and says that it tastes like chicken. Domesticated chickens originated from wild jungle fowl in Asia. So any chickens in Africa would have had to come from farmland. And then there's the whole hula scene which many of us consider the funniest part in the movie.
In the direct-to-DVD sequel, there's a scene where the two get caught by Kiara after spying on her under Simba's orders. In an attempt to tell a fib, Timon tells Kiara that they "went shopping" for a pelt, some throw pillows and potpourri. Of course, Kiara sees through their ruse and runs off. As he and Pumbaa chase after her, Timon suggests getting "a beeper" for her. Well, maybe the animal world has its own interpretations for these things (though the pelt sounds just as disturbing as Zootopia's skunk butt rug).
Oh yeah, and Timon and Pumbaa know about Christmas. In The Lion Guard's holiday special "Timon and Pumbaa's Christmas", the duo introduce the concept of Christmas to the rest of the Pridelands, but with various changes compared to the way people celebrate it. They even made up their own version of the jolly old elf (Dandy Claws). They don't outright mention humans at all, but Pumbaa explains that he and Timon heard about the holiday from several other animals - an ox, a yellow wagtail, and a flying reindeer. That last one sounds a little suspicious if you're asking me...
So how would I tie this all together? Well, I theorize that the duo were, at one point of their lives, captive animals. There was this one episode of the aforementioned 90s spinoff, "Two for the Zoo", in which they attempt to get captured so they could live a carefree life of Hakuna Matata in a zoo, eventually succeeding. I think that entire cartoon may have been a series of wacky dreams they had during their days in captivity (and escaping back to the wild). That's why they know so much about human life and how that spinoff ties in to the rest of the canon!
But hey, what are your thoughts?
Probably the entire movie, the sequels and related series, just happened mostly in a national park or a protected natural reserve similar to the Serengueti. and that may explain why we don't see any humans in the movie because as it is a protected area, only guards , zoologists, and veterinarians are legaly abled to enter the natural reserve and probaly they monitor the animals inside with videocameras to protect them, and they don't interact too much with the animals inside the reserve ( they may only patrol against ilegal hunters and provide vaccines an medicine in several periods of the year)
dude the movie wasn't released, why do you say that is the worst movie ? absurd your opinion
you are ignorant, Maories ARE polynesians , all the native people from Hawaii to Easter Island to New Zealand ( as genetics demonstrate) are descendants of one single common branch of austronesian peoples, all their languages are related, same to their mythology, culture and religion, of course with the time and isolation their cultures started to develope differently you are an idiot. your " counterexample" is so wrong in too many ways. for instance lets take mexico for example, mexicans ARE latinamericans but not all latinamericans are mexicans. similar logic applies to the polinesians, Samoans for example are polynesians but not all polinesians are samoans.
Directors were pretty clear on that (Jennifer Lee's statement meant support, not confirmation). Jennifer Lee's writes from character-out and follows what makes sense for Elsa while Chris buck specifically stated that Elsa would NEVER get a love interest as long as they stay true to her character. All of this news, petitions, Twitters, campaigns, comments and videos and statement meant nothing. Elsa is already a fully developed character from movie to shorts and books and comics and not a single scene suggested her love life struggle or showing romantic interest in women. So it's to late for Elsa to break the mold now, her being a non romantic type person and someone who doesn't picture herself having romance or being married is already canon. What for a new character who's orientation is already confirmed in the first movie, and not already established characters. Steve and bucky from avengers are already confirmed just brothers and it's to late to change that. Finn and Poe as a couple is also not possible because Finn is still crushing on Rey (rose doesn't count for him because he never had the feelings for her) and he sees Poe as only a close friend. All pushes for star wars marvel and frozen is all pointless. What for new characters with new movies.
nobody si claiming that here concentrate in the issue.

For those who think that Elsa is the one being LGBT and having a girl is mistaken. Jennifer Lee on the other said that Elsa is telling her where she needs to go, and she writes from character-out. Chris buck and Jennifer Lee both said that the sequal will tackle social issues that everyone is dealing with, but it's not the social issues the community was expecting. It's something that is universal and that it would help lots of parents children and teenagers who have trouble understanding one another and excepting one another. The point is, that Elsa is already confirmed aromantic in a book named frozen the secret admirer and her having a sexuality (gay, Straight, bi, pan or Demi) or having a girl or a boy is not relevant to her character. It won't be Elsa that breaks the mold, it will be a brand new character that will be in the near future to break the mold.
Besides a princess like that will be years until it happen but right now we have all the time to enjoy these movies without agenda pushing. Sorry that I said I wouldn't mind, I mean Disney sint likely to make the first move. Don't worry about Elsa as well because Chris buck gave his word and...................
A Lgbt topic for future princesses is a good topic on this thread. Please keep it civil.
i am civil why do you want a princess like that?.

Name: Iztaccihuatl, Iztla for short
Culture/Race: Aztec/Mesoamerican
Age: unknown. Her tale ( the leyend of the volcanoes) depicts her as a young woman probably between 15 and 22 years. maybe Disney should depict her at 18 years or so.
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown/dark
Skin Color: Brown
Favorite Color of character:
Timeperiod: Precolumbian Mexico
Royal or Commoner or something else: Most versions of her story depicts her as born royal daughter of a local Warchief
Extras about the character: Felt in love with a warrior named Popocatepetl ( Popo for short) who went to a war and an enemy ( in some versions is a priest in others the enemy is a jealous man) told her that he died in the battle and then she died of sorrow, so when Popo returned he cried and take the body of Izta to a Mountain when she and Popo rest etternally converted in Mountains. ( this end could be changed Disney may take creative liberties). She Also is Known as " la Mujer Dormida" and her tale is a traditional Mexican indigenous tale that has lasted since precolumbian times.
Here is a link below on how she may look like ( considering Aztecs were a warrior culture it could be also nice if she in the movie is also a warrior like her boyfriend Popocatepetl) : https://i.pinimg.com/originals/12/67/b9/1267b94b8a5e37c37314e19c45687603.jpg
And here is a video in spanish depicting the basic plot of their tale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w1HoeoUqLU
Suprisingly enough a few years ago I came across the "Legend of the Volcanoes" as well, when I went researching cultural fairytales and myths from around the world. I was going through a big "What Disney Princess could they make next???" phase. I used to follow alot of the forums on here, but I just couldn't understand why very little people didn't suggest any actual fairtales or myths to go along with their ideas. So I made a collection of "choice" fairytales/myths/folklore, that I believe could be easily adapted.
I might actually post that list.
Baack to this I think this would be a great start for a Disney film in general, not just the princess series. The story is pretty rich with aztecc culture and it could be beautifully done. However Frozen sorta butchered the original story of the Snow Queen for me, so I'm a little apprensive.
I remember that Disney did a Volcano short? "Lava" I think was the name. I think If they continue with the cgi, then they could use a similar style to that. Though there wasn't a lot of animation variety in the short it did have a pleasing style.
If they actually play up the trageady of the story instead of shying away from it, I would love that.
I would love to do some more character concept art for Iztla, using the stuff I've already done and the stuff you posted. ^v^
well seems Fede was banned from the site. returning to the issue i should add to your format of proposing a princess to add also : " animal/ cute sidekick" everyprincess in the franchise have at least one sidekick: for the Alien princes proposed, a robot or a cutie alien could work, for Iztaccihuatl maybe a Jaguar. and also add " favorite hobbie/ ocupation" most disney princess have a hobbie or a favorite ocupation, since Snowwhite.
