"100% Molly McGee" is the second segment of the twenty-eighth episode of the Disney Channel animated series The Ghost and Molly McGee.

Synopsis[]

When Molly's Thai cousin visits, Molly questions whether she is "Asian enough" for her own family.

Plot[]

Molly gives a presentation at school about her Thai family history and excitedly explains that her cousin Emmie and Uncle David are coming to visit. Upon returning home, she is happily greeted by her extended family and given gifts while Scratch is treated to some new Thai candy. However, when Emmie speaks full Thai to Molly, she cannot understand what she is saying as she only knows a few words. It is also implied that Sharon has trouble remembering certain words as well as the family enters the den. They begin to play Makruk (Thai chess) which Darryl seems adept at via the internet. Shortly afterwards, they try spicy foods, but Molly is incapable of withstanding it, which Sharon attributes to inheriting his tongue from Pete.

Molly starts to feel like she is not Thai enough and Scratch attempts to give her encouraging words of wisdom, though he comically fails. Instead, Molly decides to devote herself to studying Thai culture vigorously and trying to get as much of the language down. After her studying, she creates a dinner meal composed entirely of Thai food with everyone enjoying themselves. Unfortunately, Molly still has trouble keeping up with Emmi and David's Thai as they speak faster than what she can comprehend. Scratch attempts to aid her, but to no avail. When Pete tells a joke in perfect Thai, Molly feels defeated, declares that she is not Thai enough and goes upstairs.

Molly hides in her pile of stuffed animals while Scratch attempts to find another inspirational quote. Sharon comes up to check on Molly who tells her what has been going on with her. Sharon admits that she knows how she feels as she too began to feel that she lost much of her culture due to her Thai being rusty. David comes up to admit that his wife is from Thailand, but that he has never been there, Darryl explains that he wanted to learn Makruk so that he could feel uncultured, while Granma Nin explains that her sister called her "too American" after she moved to Los Angeles. Molly accepts that she is "100% Molly McGee" and embraces her family, except Nin who did not want to climb up into the attic.

Trivia[]

  • Morals:
    • Don't let your differences make you feel isolated from the rest of your family.
    • Don't feel pressured to change yourself just to fit in; be yourself.
  • The title is a reference to 100% Wolf.
  • This episode reveals that the family name on Molly's Thai side is "Suksai". Early materials listed it as the very non-Thai sounding name "Quimby", implying that this was simply a placeholder name.
    • On a slightly coincidental note, the name "Quimby" might also be similar to that of David's voice actor, Quincy Surasmith.
  • In addition to Mega City from "Game Night", the other board games I'm Not Sorry and Famished Famished Ferrets are a parody of Sorry! and Hungry Hungry Hippos.
  • The fire characters on the Extra Super Hot crispy seaweed snack bags resemble Firey from Battle for Dream Island.
  • Grandma Nin's line "Is it my turn yet?" is a likely reference to a line from the VeggieTales Christmas Spectacular, a televised special that aired as part of the network premiere of "The Toy That Saved Christmas", the show's very first Christmas episode.
