  • January 25 - In response to the growing outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 spreading throughout China, the Shanghai Disney Resort closed its gates temporarily until May 11. As a response, the resort issued a temporary refund policy for guests wishing to reschedule or cancel their visits to Shanghai Disneyland, for guests wishing to reschedule or cancel their booked stays at the resort's hotels, and for guests that have purchased tickets for Beauty and the Beast can reschedule or receive a refund.
  • January 26 - In response to the growing outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 spreading throughout China, the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort closed its gates temporarily until June 18.[15] As a response, the resort issued a temporary refund policy for guests wishing to reschedule or cancel their visits to Hong Kong Disneyland.

  • February 29 - As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to evolve, The Oriental Land Company announced a temporary closure of the Tokyo Disney Resort originally until March 15. However, it has extended its closure until July 1. This applies to Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea, and the Ikspiari shopping complex. Guests with reservations for dinner shows, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and Vacation Packages will receive a full refund. Guests with unused tickets dated or expiring between February 29-May 31, 2020 can have their ticket changed to an open-dated ticket expiring March 31, 2021. Guests with Annual Passports will have the expiration date extended. The hotels throughout the Tokyo Disney Resort remained open prior to its temporary closure, but with some benefits and various services unavailable to guests staying at them. The Disney Resort Line remained under normal operation.
  • March 4 - Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway and Vacation Fun - an original animated short with Mickey & Minnie open at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
  • March 9 - Announced on their official website, the Shanghai Disney Resort resumed limited operations for the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, Disneytown, and the Wishing Star Park. In accordance with health protocols in place to ensure the safety of park guests and Cast Members, guests with a green Shanghai QR code will be allowed to enter the resort, to undergo temperature screenings prior to arrival at the resort, to maintain respectful social distances at all times while in stores, queues and restaurants and are required to wear a mask during their entire visit. Shanghai Disneyland remained closed until reopening on May 11.
  • March 12
    • In response to the coronavirus outbreak spreading throughout Europe, Disneyland Paris has announced that outdoor shows, including Disney Illuminations and Star Wars: A Galactic Celebration have been cancelled. The following shows will continue operations, but will be in limited capacity: Frozen: A Musical Celebration, Mickey and the Magician, and Moteurs... Action! Stunt Show Spectacular. Other locations, including attractions, shops, restaurants, and Studio 1 will continue operations with capacity adjusted as necessary. Non-face character greetings and Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show are still in operation.
    • Wonderful World of Animation has its final performance at Disney's Hollywood Studios; it was originally set to close on May 12.
    • Spaceship Earth closes temporarily at Epcot; it was originally set to close on May 26.
  • March 13 - Disney Movie Magic returns at Disney's Hollywood Studios; however, it remains closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
  • March 14 - As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the Disney Cruise Line has temporarily suspended departures and the Disneyland Resort, including Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, are temporarily closed, originally until March 31, then scheduled to reopen on July 17, but was delayed, following the guidelines set forth by the Governor of California to prevent the spread of the virus. The hotels at the Disneyland Resort remained open until March 16, to give guests time to make all necessary travel arrangements. The Downtown Disney shopping and entertainment complex was also temporarily closed. Guests with packages booked through the Walt Disney Travel Company may currently reschedule for a "future date in 2020" without paying a charge fee of $50.
  • March 15 - As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, Disneyland Paris, including Disneyland Park (Paris) and Walt Disney Studios Park, is temporarily closed, originally until March 31, but will remain closed until July 15.
  • March 16 - As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the Walt Disney World Resort, including Magic Kingdom (until July 11), Epcot (until July 15), Disney's Hollywood Studios (until July 15), Disney's Animal Kingdom (until July 11), Disney's Blizzard Beach (until July 11), and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon (until July 11) is temporarily closed, originally until March 31, later extending to mid-April, then put on an indefinite pause, but wound up opening in phases starting on May 20 with the opening of Disney Springs.
  • March 23 - Lumiere's Kitchen at the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel resumes operations, but with health protocols in place to ensure the safety of park guests and Cast Members.[18]
  • March 24 - In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Aulani is temporary closed, originally until March 31, but will remain closed until further notice.
  • March 27 - The closures of Disneyland and Walt Disney World are extended until further notice and Disneyland Paris is to remain closed until mid-July.
  • April 1 - In response to the coronavirus outbreak, all onsite hotels at the Tokyo Disney Resort, including the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, the Disney Ambassador Hotel, the Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta and the Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel, are temporary closed, originally until after April 20, however, it was delayed until further notice.
  • April 30 - Character dining at the Enchanted Garden Restaurant at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel resumes operation, with social distance guidelines between characters, guests and Cast Members.[19]
  • May 11 - Chip & Dale’s Trading Post opened at Shanghai Disneyland, after being temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak impacting China, with taking into account guest capacity for social distancing, as well as health and prevention procedures that comply with local guidelines.[20][21][22][23]
  • May 20 - Disney Springs reopened at Walt Disney World Resort. Following the guidance of government and health officials, a limited number of shopping and dining experiences owned by third-party operating participants began to open during this initial phase.[24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31]
  • May 22 - All stage shows including Disney Color-Fest at Shanghai Disneyland resumes once again following its successful May 11 reopening, with strict COVID-19 social distance protocols in place.[32]
  • June 1 - Ikspiari, the shopping and dining complex of the Tokyo Disney Resort, reopened after being temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak impacting Japan, with strict COVID-19 protocols in place, including temperature screenings and social distance markers.[33]

  • June 10 - Pin Traders, Goofy’s Candy Co., Ever After Jewelry Co., and Star Wars Trading Post, DisneyStyle, Candy Cauldron, Star Wars Galactic Outpost, and MARVEL Super Hero Headquarters reopened at Disney Springs after being temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
  • June 13 - Disney's Explorers Lodge reopened at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, after being temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

  • June 25 - Bon Voyage!, the park goods shop outside of Tokyo Disneyland, reopened to guests after being temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak impacting Japan.[34]

    • Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea reopened, after being temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak impacting Japan. Both parks are operating under a severely reduced capacity, with a lottery system being set up to allocate a portion of park admissions to guests holding Annual Passports during the period when it cannot be used for Park admission. Strict COVID-19 preventative measures are in place at both parks for the safety of both park guests and Cast Members, including temperature screenings, sanitation procedures and social distance protocols.[35][36][37][38][39]
  • July 3 - The Oriental Land Company has announced the deployment of the new Type C monorail for the Disney Resort Line at the Tokyo Disney Resort.[40][41]
  • July 7 - The Magic Kingdom and Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World softly reopened after being temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • January 6 - The Disney Channel became an uninterrupted to limited commercial service after 22 years of being commercial-free.
  • January 17 - The Walt Disney Company announced that they have dropped the Fox name on both 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Pictures and were respectively renamed as 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures. Its logos and fanfare were still kept intact.[44]
  • January 28 - Following the renaming of 20th Century Fox to 20th Century Studios and Fox Searchlight Pictures to Searchlight Pictures, its animation arm 20th Century Fox Animation was incorporated and registered legally as 20th Century Animation, Inc.[45]
  • February 25 - Bob Iger, chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company, has stepped down from his role, and has named Bob Chapek of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, as its new CEO. He will assume the role of Executive Chairman and its Board of Directors to ensure a smooth transition through the end of his contract with the company on December 31, 2021.
  • March 11 - Frozen played its final performance on Broadway due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • March 24 - Disney+ was launched in Austria, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland, and Switzerland.
