"A Gummi in a Gilded Cage" is the fourth episode of the Adventures of the Gummi Bears which aired on October 5, 1985.
Plot[]
Sunni is kidnapped by a flock of sinister, bird-like creatures known as Carpies, whose king wants to enslave her as a song bird.
The other Gummies must use their new flying machine to get to the top of Carpy Mountain and rescue her, all while Gruffi and Zummi must deal with their acrophobia and Gruffi's insistence that "Gummies were not meant to fly."
Eventually, the team manages to get to the Carpies' lair and they free Sunni. Unfortunately, the flying machine is severely damaged and cannot fly under its own power. Desperately, they salvage the parts to make a large gliding wing, it requires an outside push off a cliff to get into motion. Gruffi volunteers to push off, knowing full well that he will face the wrath of the Carpies alone.
Cubbi tearfully bids him farewell on his knees, but it is a cover to secretly tie a rope attached to the glider. As such, when Gruffi pushes off the glider, he is unaware that he is tied to it and is suddenly dragged through the air when the rope snaps taunt. With some desperate manuevering, the Gummies escape the Carpies with Gruffi coming along.
Back at Gummi Glen, Grammi treats Gruffi's numerous injuries sustained during his improvised trip, while Sunni discourages anyone singing for fear of restarting the trouble all over again.
