"A Hand Meets a Hand" is a song in Disney's 2025 live-action fantasy remake Snow White. It serves as the love theme for the film, written by composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and performed by Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan.
In the film, Snow White and Jonathan sing the song during the party at the Seven Dwarfs' Cottage, beginning to see themselves and each other in a different light, and coming to realize that their feelings for one another are stronger than they believed.
Lyrics[]
Snow White:
I used to think that the way through the woods would be lonely
Dark forest before me, the night hangin' heavy above
And the wind blows
But now, I don't shake in the shadows
Maybe, wherever this road goes
I won't have to walk it alone
'Cause a hand meets a hand
Like it found where to land
And suddenly, I've watched the world come alive
And now I'm lost in the view
So I start to let go
And give in to the glow
Oh, I know it's naive, but tonight, I believe
That somethin' so good could come true
And maybe it might have a little somethin' to do
With you
Jonathan:
I used to think that this world would forever stay broken
Cutthroat and cruel, every fool had to fend for himself
But who knows?
When we're together, the time slows
Maybe, wherever this road goes
I won't have to walk it alone
'Cause a hand meets a hand
Somethin' I never planned
And suddenly, I've watched the world come alive
And I just might like the view
Both:
So I start to let go
Just to see what'll grow
And perhaps, I'm naive, but tonight, I believe
That somethin' so good could come true
And maybe it might have a little somethin' to do
With you
And maybe I'm dreaming
Well, I'd like to stay just like this
But if there's a world where you wake me
Promise to wake me with a kiss
A hand meets a hand
Finally somewhere to land
Seems it's not so naive to begin to believe
Something good has come true
And maybe it might have a little something
It might have everything to do
With you
Trivia[]
- The line "but if there's a world where you wake me, promise to wake me with a kiss" addresses the controversies surrounding Snow White needing consent in order to be kissed.
- It also foreshadows the scene where Jonathan awakens Snow with a true loves kiss, after she is put under a sleeping curse by the Evil Queen. Jonathan keeps his promise to Snow by wakening her.
- The song is the remake version of "One Song" from the animated film.
- This scene was one of the final ones filmed for the film.[1]
- The visuals with the fireflies and the setting being at night parallels the song with "I See the Light" from Tangled".
