The attraction features a large artificial tree with a wooden treehouse built by a family of explorers who were shipwrecked on a tropical island. The treehouse has several rooms that reflect the family's interests and hobbies, such as music, nature, astronomy, and art. Guests can climb up the stone stairway and explore the treehouse at their own pace while enjoying the views of Adventureland and the sounds of the jungle. The treehouse also has a waterwheel and a pulley system that provide water and energy for the family's inventions and gadgets.
The Adventureland Treehouse pays tribute to the original Swiss Family Treehouse that Walt Disney and his Imagineers built in 1962 in honor of the movie Swiss Family Robinson. The original attraction was rethemed to Tarzan's Treehouse in 1999 but restored to its original theme in 2023 with a new story and updated details. The new Adventureland Treehouse introduces a new family of explorers who have fashioned an oasis among the trees using objects found around them. They are proud of what they have accomplished and eager to share their way of life with visitors from around the world.
The Adventureland Treehouse is one of the few attractions at Disneyland that does not have a Disney Genie+ option, as it does not have a queue or a set duration. It is open during the park's regular operating hours, except during inclement weather or maintenance. The attraction is suitable for guests of all ages, but some parts of the treehouse may be inaccessible for guests with mobility disabilities, with paintings near the tree's base area giving guests unable to climb further a sense of the rest of the attraction. It has a height requirement of 40 inches (102 cm) for children and a weight limit of 300 pounds (136 kg) for adults.
Overview[]
At the base of the tree past the waterwheel is the kitchen which has become automated by various water-powered contraptions built by the father. The family's pet ostrich Jane (named for the Tarzan character) can be seen peeking her head up from inside her enclosure and paintings of the rooms above are displayed around the father's art studio.
The first room seen on the climb up the tree is the mother's music parlor, where a playing pipe organ and other automated instruments play the Swisskapolka. Copies of the books "Tarzan of the Apes" and "Swiss Family Robinson" can be seen among the props as another tribute to the Treehouse's past occupants.
The second room is the daughter's Astronomy loft containing a large telescope, astrolabes and solar system models. A budding young astronomer, the daughter is trying to join the Society of Explorers and Adventurers and is already in correspondence with the group.
The third and final room belongs to the family's twin sons, who have been studying the jungle's creatures and have collected a large number of pets ranging from toucans and frogs to a mischievous monkey named Rascal.
