Díaz is an aviator (hence his name) who is a colleague of Buzz Lightyear. He is shown to support Buzz to help him get ready for his test flight, such as helping him get ready to board the XL-01 with his I.V.A.N. so he can get ready for his flight. But during these flight tests, Buzz experiences time dilation. While it's only minutes for Buzz, years pass for Díaz and everyone else, which is caused via time dilation effect resulting him to age.
Role in the film[]
Buzz approaches Airman Díaz who tells him that the vines living on the planet are hostile, especially living on the planet of T'Kani Prime. While readying himself for launch, Díaz walks alongside Buzz planning to find a new hyper speed resource for his ship to leave the planet, but before Buzz can continue, Díaz hands him his I.V.A.N. just before passing through the XL-01 and later an ERIC giving a fuel crystal for his ship so that Buzz can begin his mission.
After Buzz returns to T'Kani Prime following a failure to reach hyper speed during his assignment, Díaz approaches Buzz as it is revealed that Buzz has been gone for four years, two months, and three days via time dilation, which resulted in Díaz growing a beard. Diaz is last seen during a montage of Buzz going through hyper speed, albeit the time dilation causing him to age, resulting him to become old. He does not appear again afterwards even after Buzz returns from his mission after defeating Emperor Zurg, but since he became old after Buzz returned to T'Kani Prime, it is likely that he died of old age due to the time dilation causing him to age, as in the case of Alisha Hawthorne.
