"Alaka-Sham!" is the second segment of the thirty-seventh episode of the Disney Channel animated series The Ghost and Molly McGee.
Synopsis[]
Darryl and Scratch run a magic show scheme and are challenged to a magic-off by a rival magician.
Plot[]
Darryl's latest money-making scheme is using Scratch to help him perform magic. Molly is outraged by this due to her own personal hatred towards close-up magic, which she considers to be a form of lying. The scheme turns out to be very lucrative, though Scratch is still pestered by the Ghost Council who ask that he take care of a cabinet containing curses that need to be managed. Scratch insists that they only contact him when something actually dangerous occurs. Darryl is confronted by Brighton's local magician Irving the Illusionist who is incensed that Darryl is on his turf, though Darryl and Scratch easily humiliate him.
Darryl and Scratch continue their scheme while Molly reprimands them for choosing such a, in her eyes, lowly profession. Irving, finally having had enough of Darryl's humiliation challenges him to a magician competition to be held in front of a live audience. Whoever loses has to stop practicing magic in Brighton for good. Just moments before Darryl is to go out, Scratch is called back to the ghost realm to deal with the Curse Cabinet as it overflows and wrecks mayhem. Darryl panics and Molly, overcome with sympathy, reveals that she is well versed in close-up magic and offers to help him this one time. The two put up a good act against Irving and his pigeon Midge, and both acts are tied.
Irving has one final trick planned. He talks with Midge that this is all he has left, but they should try to do it for the children as this was what they live to do. Darryl realizes that he is impeding on someone's sole livelihood. Irving commences the trick: unlock himself from chains before being cannon pelted with paint, when he suddenly has trouble escaping his trick due to Midge passing out and Scratch returns just in time. He plans to help Darryl win, but Darryl tells him and Molly that he will let Irving win, but Scratch can still do magic. He possesses Midge and rescues Irving at the last minute. Darryl comes out and claims defeat, allowing Irving to continue his work as a magician. Darryl, impressed with Molly, suggests that they continue their act together as a team, but Molly, after forbidding those events from being told of again, levitates away from the conversation using magic, causing Scratch to ask her how she did that.
