I'm here to collect your friend. Lure him off this bus where I can take him quietly away from so many eyes, and your quest goes on unimpeded and unburdened. We both know he isn't gonna be of any help to you, and maybe even a hinderance. Some children must learn the hard way.
―Alecto speaking to Annabeth[src]

Alecto, also known as Mrs. Dodds, is a minor antagonist in the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. She is a fury that tries to kill Percy Jackson.

Background[]

Alecto is one of several furies that worked for the God of the Underworld, Hades. Being the lead fury, she is committed to doing whatever is necessary to fulfill her leader's orders and takes great pleasure in her duties.

Personality[]

Alecto is very cool and calculating and has a slight sense of confidence in her. She takes pleasure in dealing out punishment in her own way. She also enjoys seeing other people suffer and takes great joy in others dealing it out as well, favoring Nancy Bobofit's bad behavior towards Percy being a prime example. She also has no qualms about delivering low blows to people such as smugly criticizing Thalia Grace's fate.

Physical appearance[]

Alecto, in her natural form, resembles a brown feathered harpy with talons for feet, large wingspan, but a human face. As her human disguise Mrs. Dodds, she resembles a white woman with coifed grey hair. She dresses in a grey suit with a red neckerchief and a black leather coat over it.

Powers and abilities[]

Alecto is protected by the Mist to resemble a normal middle-aged woman. When out in the open, she has the ability to grow wings and talons, allowing her to fly and attack those, respectively.

Role in the series[]

The Lightning Thief[]

At some point prior to the beginning of the series, Alecto took on the human form of Mrs. Dodds in an attempt to locate a demigod at Yancy Academy. That demigod turned out to be Percy Jackson, a boy she took glee in punishing, in favor of doting over Nancy Bobofit, a girl who similarly also disliked Percy. After Percy's powers awaken and he "shoves" her into a fountain, Alecto revealed her true self and proceeded to confront Percy about something, demanding that he "give it back". Before anything else could be done, Percy, who was given a pen that could transform into a sword by Mr. Brunner earlier, unexpectedly pierced through Alecto, causing her to disintegrate. Due to her spell over the school going with her, nobody besides Percy, Mr. Brunner, and Grover Underwood remembered her.

Alecto suddenly returned from the dead to continue her hunt for Percy for reasons still unknown. While sitting on a bus that had stopped for a break, she was quickly spotted by Annabeth Chase who, with her invisibility cap, confronted the fury and warned her to leave them alone. Alecto responded by mocking Annabeth's, and to a certain extent Grover's, failure to save their friend Thalia Grace from death. With no other option, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover hastily escaped the bus, briefly running into and killing Alecto's sister, Tisiphone, while Alecto was held by by a crowd of people trying to leave the bus.

Alecto managed to follow the kids afterwards to Auntie Em's Garden Emporium, but before she could do anything, Medusa came out. Knowing of her power, Alecto shielded herself from her and was forced to wait outside while the kids entered, albeit reluctantly into the monsters domain. Sometime afterward, Percy exited the emporium with the head of Medusa, after having sliced it off and used it on a furious Alecto who promptly turned to stone in midflight, causing her to shatter upon hitting the ground.

However, Alecto was revived by Hades and was sent to retrieve his Helm of Darkness after it was given up by Ares, following his defeat at the hands of Percy. Alecto seemed reluctantly grateful for the return of it, but warned Percy that he was not fully free from danger, before leaving.

Trivia[]

  • Alecto is depicted close to her appearance in the book. All prior adaptations have her dressing appropriately for a teacher her age.
  • Prior to Megan Mullaly playing her, Alecto was played by Maria Olsen in the first film and Sarah Beth Pfeifer (who also played Clarisse La Rue, Katie Gardner, and Bianca Di Angelo) in the Broadway musical.
