Alien: Romulus is an upcoming American science-fiction horror film, serving as a "standalone" installment and the seventh film overall in Alien franchise. It is scheduled to be released on August 16, 2024.[1]

In the ninth entry in the iconic sci-fi horror series, a group of young people on a distant world find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.[2]

After the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company, it was officially confirmed at the 2019 CinemaCon that future Alien films are in development. In May 2019, Variety reported that the third prequel film was "in the script phase", with Ridley Scott attached to serve once again as director. In September 2020, Scott confirmed that work on the next installment is ongoing, but was undecided with keeping it tied in with the plot set out in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. In August 2021, however, a news report concluded that a sequel is currently uncertain.[5]

On March 4, 2022, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Fede Álvarez would be writing and directing the film after pitching his own story, and was said to be "connected" to the previous films in the franchise, with the project now being set to release on Hulu.[6]

On November 16, 2022, Deadline reported that Cailee Spaeny was cast in the lead role.[3]

On March 2, 2023, Deadline reported that Isabela Merced was cast in an undisclosed role.[4] The following day, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu joined the cast, and that the film is scheduled to begin on March 9 in Budapest.[2]

On June 13, 2023, it was announced that the film would be released on August 16, 2024.[1] It would be 45 years after the release of the original Alien film.

  • The film is set between the first two Alien movies.[7]
