"Amazing Fantasy" is the series premiere of Marvel's Disney+ series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It premiered on January 29, 2025, followed by "The Parker Luck".
Synopsis[]
During high school orientation, Peter's life is forever changed. A new era of Spider-Man begins here!
Plot[]
In 2015, Peter Parker is late for his first day at Midtown High School. He and his Aunt May are still reeling from the passing of Ben Parker, implied to be of an illness. Just as Peter is about to enter the school, a portal suddenly opens from above and a symbiotic alien, followed by Doctor Strange, fall out. Strange, realizing that he is someplace he is not supposed to be, attempts to divert the damage that the alien is causing, but is too late to prevent a truck from destroying a portion of the school.
During the fight, a girl named Nico Minoru is chased by the alien, but Peter steps in and heroically distracts it. Strange manages to capture the alien and leaves, thanking Peter as he does so. As the portal closes, a small spider that also came out falls towards the ground. Peter and Nico introduce themselves to each other, only for the spider to bite Peter on the neck. He collapses as Nico and May check on him and he sees the spider crawling onto someone's backpack.
Months later, Peter has fashioned himself a makeshift suit and is now going by the name Spider-Man. He now attends Rockford T. Bales with Nico, along with a couple other students. While swinging to school, he spots affluent teenager Harry Osborn being accosted by live streamer thugs. Peter makes quick work of them before getting thanked by Harry.
At school, Peter arrives late before reuniting with Nico. Peter is revealed to have a crush on his former neighbor, and babysitter, Pearl Pangan, but does not have the courage to speak to her or admit his feelings. He later excuses himself from class to go stop a car chase, ending with him performing a miraculous feat of preventing a van from hitting a bus. Empowered, he returns to school with the intent to ask Pearl out, only for Nico to tell him that she is dating star quarterback Lonnie Lincoln.
A week later, Peter is still upset over Pearl and Lonnie dating When their teacher orders that everyone pair up for an assignment, Peter hopes to get with Pearl, only for Lonnie to go straight to Peter. Peter is surprised to learn that Lonnie is not only intelligent, but he explains that he was told by Pearl that he was brilliant, much to his surprise. Peter ends up liking Lonnie and the two quickly become friends. After school, Peter and Lonnie part with positive feelings about each other.
In the evening, Lonnie returns home, where it is revealed that despite a positive home life, he and his family are implied to be of low-income. Later, Peter as Spider-Man catches a thief and returns the money to the pizza store owner. Peter however, suggests to the owner that they let the thief go as she is just a simple woman who recently lost her job. The owner agrees and even offers Peter free pizza. Afterwards, Peter finds a disused DVD player in the dumpster and takes it home where he finds a sports car outside. As he enters his apartment, he finds May talking to a visitor: Norman Osborn.

- The title is a reference to Spider-Man's first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15.
- Peter is also shown reading Amazing Adult Fantasy #14 when he wakes up at the start of the episode.
- Spider-Man swinging alongside a bus mirrors the character doing the same in Avengers: Infinity War, when he left to help Iron Man.
- This episode is the first to feature Aunt May in MCU animation, as she was only mentioned in the What If...? episode "What If... Zombies!?"
- This last scene parallels Captain America: Civil War. Peter tells May that "there is a crazy car parked outside", the music playing when Peter walks into the apartment is the same from the movie, and Norman Osborn is already speaking to May as Peter walks into the apartment, just like when she met Tony Stark. The song “Left Hand Free” by alt-J plays, too.
- Peter gets his powers from a spider that falls through a portal, unlike the comics and other media where he is bitten by a spider in a science lab.
- The way how the spider bites Peter on the back of his neck, is a reference to how Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man got bitten.
- The Doctor Strange that appears in this episode has a costume which is more comic book accurate than his counterpart's costume from the Sacred Timeline.
- The music playing when Doctor Strange first appears is the same as the theme used for the 2016 film.
- One of the accounts who comment on a live-stream is named Screwball, who is a media-loving villain from the comics.
- One of the commenters of the live-stream mocks the thugs by saying they got beaten up by someone wearing hockey pads. This may be a reference to The Dark Knight film, in which Batman says the difference between him and a copycat vigilante is that he isn't wearing hockey pads.
- Instead of NYPD, the police cars are labelled as PDNY like in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
- Klev is visible when Spider-Man is swinging away after the alley fight. This character previously appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, where he said "Do a flip!", and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
- The tie-in comic reveals that Midtown had been rebuilt by the time the "months later" transition occurred. Peter chose to stay at Bales in this version to be close to Nico and Pearl.
