"An Imposter Is Born" is the second segment of the twenty-ninth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Hailey's On It!

Synopsis[]

Hailey lives the life of her favorite pop star but finds out it's all work and no play.

Plot[]

Hailey and Scott are waiting in line to see pop star Kelci Fyre. Hailey recalls how she heard one of her songs earlier and accidentally hit her head, causing her to "see double". This inspired her to write a song, leading to her making the list item that Kelci listen to it. Kelci, who looks and sounds like Hailey, is pressured by her manager, later revealed to be her mother, Jannica, to hurry up with the signings so that they can go to their next meeting. Hailey accidentally bumps into a variety of things that make her look like her idol and meets Kelci. The two of them realize that they look like each other and Hailey whisks her away.

Hailey and Scott take Kelci to U.F. Dough, where she marvels at the mundane aspects of life. Due to her constantly touring and promoting things, she does not have to focus on being a regular girl and wishes she could live a regular life. Hailey suggests that they swap places with one another so that they can get a taste of the other's life. Conditionally, Kelci agrees that she will listen to Hailey's demo tape, recorded on a literal cassette tape. Hailey and Scott are found by Jannica and taken back to the tour bus. While Scott and Beta enjoy the amenities, Hailey discovers firsthand that Kelci's life is a lot of work and begins to miss her old life.

Feeling that she has had enough, Hailey plots to get Kelci back to performing. Beta poses as a instrument playing cat over the phone to distract Jannica while Hailey and Scott sneak away to Cost Woah. They find a relaxed Kelci and convince her to return to her old life by telling her to be more up front with Jannica. Upon returning, Kelci finally stands up to her mother by firing her, which she doesn't mind as she believes that she secured a deal with the cat. Kelci, who successfully listened to Hailey's mixtape, asks her to come on stage with her to perform the song, which she does so to the adoration of the audience.
