Ariel is the titular protagonist of the Disney Jr. animated series of the same name. She is an 8-year-old mermaid princess of the underwater kingdom Atlantica.
She is based the character of the same name from both the The Little Mermaid and the 2023 live-action remake.
Background[]
Like the original character, Ariel is an adventurous little mermaid who loves adventure with her friends, Flounder, Lucia, and Fernie. One of her favorite hobbies is discovering human stuff, or "land treasures" as she calls them, which she collects and keeps either at Crystal Cavern or at home. However, like the original character, she is not so knowledgeable or accurate about the stuff she collects. In "Crystal Cavern Caper", she calls a shoe a "flap-a-doodle" and claims that people wear them like hats. In "The Clean Team" she claims her "flanker dooper" (aka a fishing net) is for decoration and not for catching sea creatures. And like the original character, she calls a fork a "Dinglehopper". Among her land treasures is her human doll named Naeema, which she loves very much.
Sometimes Ariel can be impatient and irresponsible, which leads to her making mistakes or getting into trouble, especially when magic is involved. She is not fond of chores and would rather spend the day playing. Despite her mistakes, she makes up for them in the end.
Physical appearance[]
Ariel is an 8-year-old mermaid with dark matte skin, red hair braided in dreadlocks tied back in a ponytail with a seashell and pearl hairband. Her tail is light green with magenta fins. She has brown eyes, red eyelashes, and light shiny scales on her cheeks. She wears a pink shiny strapless and sleeveless top, and a purple seashell necklace with pink pearls.
Powers and abilities[]
- Tail Shimmers: Whenever Ariel gets big feelings, her tail magically "shimmers" into different colors depending on her mood.
- Love shimmer: When Ariel feels warm, fuzzy, and love, her tail turns bright sparkly silver with a sparkly silver and gold fins.
- Angry shimmer: When Ariel feels grumpy, mad, moody, or jealous, her tail will turn purple with her fins turning pink.
- Happy shimmer: When Ariel feels happy, her tail turns sparkly pink with bright sparkly gold fins
- Idea shimmer: When she comes up with a big idea, her tail will turn into a mix of orange and pink.
Trivia[]
- This is the second incarnation of Ariel to be portrayed as black, following the character from the 2023 live-action remake.
- She is the only animated version of Ariel who is not voiced by Jodi Benson.
- Unlike the original character, Ariel does not keep her collection of human stuff a secret from her father.
- Unlike her original movie counterpart, Ariel has older twin sisters instead six sisters.
- This version of Ariel does not meet Eric as she is only a young girl, making her the first counterpart of the character to not have a love interest. She is also the youngest version of the character, as Ariel is usually portrayed as over 16 years old.
