Artemis Fowl I is the widowed father of Artemis Fowl II, the protagonist of the 2020 film Artemis Fowl.

Background[]

After disappearing mysteriously, Artemis Sr. is branded as a major thief by the media, responsible for the disappearance of some of the world's most important artifacts. In fact, he is secretly an ally of the fairy-folk, helping to protect their treasures, and working together with Beechwood Short.

Role in the film[]

Artemis Fowl Sr. is introduced at the beginning of the film where he is described as a dealer of antiques and rarities and just about every Irish fairytale one might care to imagine where his son Artemis Jr. approaches him, telling him stories about Irish folklore such as leprechauns. banshees, sprites, and goblins which his father believed in these legends just as Artemis Sr. spends his passion with his son on rare occasions when he wasn't at home, but was determined to have his son everything to know about the fairies which might come sooner than anyone expected. Artemis Jr. then approaches his father who tells him the stories of fairies who came to Fowl Manor. Artemis Sr. then tells a story to his son who tells him when he is leaving which his father tells him that he has to do an important thing, due to his father's work coming to an end, similar to how stories having an ending, telling him that when the story ends, a new one will begin, thinking that it would be his son's story just as Artemis Sr.'s son tells him that all he wants is to believe in him. Artemis Jr. suddenly hugs his father before he leaves but decides to keep his son safe for a little longer just before his father leaves via helicopter. As his father leaves, Artemis bids a farewell to his father, telling him that he should always be near.

Later during a report, Artemis Sr. appears in the headline where he is suspected to be behind the theft of various artifacts from many places and hearing about this, Artemis Jr. plans to protect his father from danger. He then calls his son Artemis Jr., telling him that he was captured by Opal Koboi as she tells Artemis Jr. that his father stole something from him and hid it, telling Artemis Jr. to find the Aculos or he will never see his father again. This leads a plan for Artemis who is assisted by Domovoi Butler to rescue his father. Artemis Sr. then appears in a flashback drawing a mysterious figure he met in his journal before his disappearance where he narrates that the mysterious figure he encountered is Opal Koboi, the greatest fairy of them all who has gone to the dark side.

Upon being captured by Koboi, she tells Artemis' father that his son has kidnapped a fairy, much to Artemis' father telling her why she is doing this to him, which Koboi tells him that she wants revenge against Artemis Jr.'s father, telling him that the not only the humans attacked her, but as soon as her species was gone, she tells him that he reduced them to stories to entertain people, telling him that fairies and humans cannot be together, planning to take revenge against the Aculos so that she can release her army to take over the Earth and both worlds, planning to restore every fairy back to existence seeing humans as a threat to fairies. Using the magic of the Aculos, Artemis' father is brought back home just as Artemis Jr. reunites with his father together in Fowl Manor, much to Koboi's breakdown. Artemis Jr. introduces his father to Holly Short, telling her that his father sacrificed his life to save her where it is explained that Beechwood was a hero who gave him a list of Koboi's accomplices which he is unable to pronounce sharing a condolence to Holly before she leaves as Artemis Sr. reunites with Dom.

Later at the end of the film, Artemis Sr. joins with his son who told Opal Koboi that she failed telling her that she was wrong about Beechwood and Artemis Sr. just before Artemis Sr. and his son leave via helicopter with Domovoi joining them, followed by the group rescuing Mulch from his prison cell in the Interrogation Unit with Holly flying along to continue their mission to stop Koboi's associates.
