The Baboons are characters featured in the Jungle Cruise attraction at the Disney Parks.
History[]
Background[]
These baboons appear to show a hostile personality to those who pass by them in their territory, often making noisy screeching throughout the attraction resembling olive baboons (Papio anubis). This could imply that the baboons think of humans as a threat to their territory which is a possible reason why they are heard screeching. Guests managed to avoid them in time before they prepared to attack them.
Development History[]
The animatronic baboons were one of the many animals that used to appear in the African veldt scene. However, at an unknown date, they were placed near the Congo Basin area for unknown reasons.
Appearances[]
Jungle Cruise[]
The baboons are encountered in one scene in the Conngo Basin where they are seen screeching loudly, implying that they are ready to attack the unwelcomed visitors who arrive in their territory. The guests manage to evade the baboons in time as they end up in a gorilla camp.
Jingle Cruise[]
The baboons reprise their role as they did in the standard overlay, albeit interacting with Santa hats and costumes all over them.
Trivia[]
- Skippers would occasionally give baboons informal names as "Daniel", "Pat", "Debbie", and "Vidal" respectively in reference to famous Boones and the last one being a reference to hairstylist Vidal Sassoon.
