"Band" is the first half of the 8th episode of Dave the Barbarian.
Synopsis[]
Fang unknowingly invents rock n' roll, causing herself, Dave, Candy, Oswidge, Lula, Faffy and a donkey to form the wildly successful band "The Barbarian Six + Donkey". However, Chuckles the Silly Piggy disguises himself as a music producer and fools the band as part of a plan to destroy them for good.
Plot[]
The Narrator tries to introduce an exciting story, but the barbarians are not doing anything. He rants about nothing interesting going on, until Dave enters with a lute. No one is impressed, and they are even less impressed when he starts singing a gentle ballad about his donkey. Fang, unable to withstand the song, takes the lute and tunes it so that it now sounds like an electric guitar. She plays her own song about the donkey, and everyone is amazed. Oswidge calls the new music "rock and roll," because it sounds like someone is hitting him with a rock, and he wants to eat a roll. Fang explains that a bug taught her how to play the lute in exchange for not squishing him. She proposes they start a band, and Dave comes up with the name: The Barbarian 6 + Donkey (after the donkey kicks him for being excluded).
That evening, the band performs "Donkey Chum" for a crowd, and it is a hit. After the concert, the group gets their cut of the ticket sales in the form of a mountain of gold coins. The band's popularity begins to grow, but Dave feels the fame and fortune are going to everyone's heads. Oswidge, Candy, Fang, and Faffy are too busy swimming in money to care. Then, a vaguely familiar piggy bursts in. He introduces himself as Chuckles the Silly Music Producer and will help the Barbarian 6 + Donkey get even more money (as well as destroy them).
In the recording studio, Dave tries to record his new song, "Pancake Party." Everyone hates it until Fang makes it into a punk song. After playing the song back on the equipment (talking parrots), the band records the rest of their parts and leave for the day. Chuckles then records a subliminal hypnotic message on the parrots, telling the listeners to destroy the Barbarian 6 + Donkey. The more the song is distributed, the more people fall under the spell.
Later, the barbarians are trying to store their royalty money, which has completely filled Udrogoth castle. Chuckles arrives and rips off his disguise, revealing his evil plan. The hypnotized fans arrive with pitchforks and clubs, ready to destroy the band. Oswidge proposes they win the crowd over with more music, but the encore of "Donkey Chum" does not work. Dave then plays another gentle ballad, begging the crowd to not destroy them. The crowd is touched, but nevertheless, advance on the band. Dave gets one last idea. Since greed got them into this mess, charity should fix it. He then opens the door to the castle and all the money spills out. The crowd takes their gold back and cheer for Dave. Chuckles threatens Dave, but the barbarian throws Chuckles into the crowd, saying there is money inside him.
Dave asks the donkey to sing to close out the show. The donkey performs his Barry White-esque "Honey Donkey," which everyone loves, even the mauled Chuckles.
