The Bats are characters featured in the Splash Mountain attraction at the Disney Parks.
History[]
Background[]
The bats, as their names imply, are sentient winged mammals encountered in the Splash Mountain attraction in Walt Disney World Resort and Tokyo Disneyland.
Development History[]
Due to the success of the Splash Mountain attraction at Disneyland, Splash Mountain was later constructed at Frontierland at Magic Kingdom and Critter Country Tokyo Disneyland respectively, the imagineering team created glowing red eyes that would resemble as bats.
As of 2020, Splash Mountain was announced for closure in order to remove all references to Song of the South due to controversy surrounding the film which the attraction is based on to make way for a Princess and the Frog-themed attraction. Therefore, it is currently unknown what will replace the animatronic bats in the reimagined version of the attraction while the Oriental Land Company has not yet announced whether to retheme the Tokyo Disneyland version of Splash Mountain or not. The Magic Kingdom version of Splash Mountain permanently closed on January 23, 2023.
Appearances[]
In the Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland's version of the attraction, the bats can be seen in a cavern after when Br'er Fox captured Br'er Rabbit in a beehive where he would take Br'er Rabbit up to his lair.
