"Beneath Europa" is the first segment of the fifty-first episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on May 20, 2017 alongside "Callistos on Ice", and is the first segment of the twenty-first episode in the second season.
Plot[]
While Miles and M.E.R.C. are playing holo-pong in the activity room, Leo calls, telling Miles to head to the bridge, as the Callistos have a surprise call coming through. Miles likes surprises, and he and M.E.R.C. head to the bridge, where the Callistos make contact with Professor Rubicon. Rubicon is calling from the Trident Research Station, which is orbiting Planet Jupiter. Rubicon needs the Callistos to help him on his latest expedition: exploring the vast, hidden ocean under the icy crust of Europa. Loretta mentions that Europa is one of sixty-seven moons of Jupiter. Rubicon says that Europa may be the most fascinating, as it may have more than twice as much water as Earth's oceans. Wherever there is water, there is life, and Rubicon believes that it may be true in that ocean. The Callistos accept, but Rubicon tells them that to get to the ocean, they will need to tunnel through miles of solid ice. Leo has a solution: to mod the Star Jetter with a melt probe. The Callistos then set course for the Trident Research Station.
Once there, Miles is impressed about how big Jupiter is, and Loretta says that 1,321 Earths can fit inside it. The space tunnel then connects to the station, and Rubicon meets with the Callistos. Leo then reveals the melt probe he invented for the Star Jetter, and believes it is awesome. The Callistos and Rubicon then leave the Stellosphere to head to Europa.
Miles wonders what kind of lifeforms they will find in Europa. Rubicon predicts that they'll at least find some tiny microbes, but anything bigger would be incredible. He also decrees that whoever finds a lifeform first will have the honor of naming it. Miles is ready to give the lifeforms blastastic names when the Star Jetter passes a water vapor. Europa's surface is cracked as a result of Jupiter's strong gravity. Where the ice is thin enough, that is where the ocean water shoots up. Leo then activates the Star Jetter's Aqua Mode and melt probe. While tunneling down to the ocean, the tunnel is closing in behind the Star Jetter, meaning that the Callistos and Rubicon will have to dig a new tunnel when they come back out. They then make it to the ocean, and Loretta announces that they have gone where no one has ever gone before. Leo then parks the Star Jetter near a trench, and this is where the Callistos and Rubicon leave the ship to search for lifeforms.
Rubicon sees hydro-thermal vents, which he believes is the most likely place to find life. Loretta then sees some lifeforms, and gathers everyone at their location. The Callistos congratulate Loretta on the discovery, and continue their search for more lifeforms. While Miles and M.E.R.C. head to a cave, Phoebe and Leo come across an awesome reef, and inform everyone about it. Miles tells them that he and M.E.R.C. will find a lifeform. Eventually, Miles and M.E.R.C. see an alien jellyfish, which goes away. However, it comes back and this time, many more jellyfish are coming. Miles and M.E.R.C. speed away from them, and Miles tells everyone good news and bad news. The good news is that he and M.E.R.C. found the biggest lifeforms on Europa, but the bad news is that they do not like visitors. Phoebe tells everyone to head back to the Sea Jetter immediately. Miles and M.E.R.C. manage to stall some of the jellyfish before everyone heads in the ship. While the ship is escaping, the jellyfish grabs it. Leo activates the ship's power to maximum to break free, but in doing so, the ship loses its melt probe before hiding.
Miles realizes that there is a way to make it out of Europa even without the melt probe. He realizes the plumes of water vapor they saw on the surface, and wonders if they could ride one out of Europa. Loretta finds out that Europa should be sending out more plumes any moment now. The Callistos then take the Sea Jetter out of hiding and try to head away from the jellyfish giving chase. Eventually, Miles spots a plume, and Leo activates the Sea Jetter's bumper shields. The ship then gets sucked into the plume, and its bumper shields are about to go offline and its engines are overheating when it escapes. The Star Jetter then leaves Europa and returns to the Stellosphere.
Rubicon thanks the Callistos, and tells them that he wouldn't have made it in or out of Europa without their help. The time has come for naming the lifeforms they found. Loretta names the creatures she found the Loretta fish, while Leo and Phoebe name the reef they found the Callistean Reef. As for Miles, he wonders if he should name the alien jellyfish he found as Shipcrushers or Doomfish before officially naming them King Europans, masters of Europa's hidden ocean. Rubicon calls that a name for the history books.
