Bernard Fox was a Welsh actor and voice actor. For Disney, he provided the voice of the Chairmouse in The Rescuers and its sequel The Rescuers Down Under, along with Dr. Mouse. He also played the role of Max in Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo and a car salesman in The Million Dollar Duck. In addition, he voiced the Professor in Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers and did voice work in The Animated Atlas of the World.
He was born in Port Talbot, Glamorgan to a family of actors. Beginning his career at 18 months, by age 14 was an apprentice assistant manager of a theatre. After serving with the Royal Navy in World War II and the Korean War, he resumed his acting career. He appeared in the Scotland Yard film series, Home and Away, A Night to Remember, The Longest Day, Strange Bedfellows, Munster, Go Home!, Star!, Arnold, The Private Eyes, Yellowbeard, Titanic (1997), and The Mummy (1999).
In television, Fox is known for his role as the witch doctor Dr. Bombay on 18 episodes of the sitcom Bewitched. He also appeared in The Danny Thomas Show, The Andy Griffith Show, McHale's Navy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Twelve O'Clock High, Perry Mason, Hogan's Heroes, I Dream of Jeannie, The Monkees, The Flintstones, Love, American Style, Columbo, M*A*S*H, What's Happening!, Fantasy Island, The Dukes of Hazzard, The Love Boat, The Jeffersons, Knight Rider, Murder, She Wrote, Punky Brewster, Pee-wee's Playhouse, Passions, and Time Squad.
Fox retired from performing in 2004 and, in 2016, died of heart failure at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, California.
