Beta is the tritagonist in the Disney Channel series Hailey's On It! He is a robotic AI whose job is to help Hailey Banks complete her to-do list.
Background[]
Personality[]
Beta is a short-tempered, yet highly passionate AI who does not put up with any nonsense and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. He does not take himself too seriously as he does have other hobbies and interests. While he won't admit it, he does take pleasure in being seen as adorable and likes being tended to. He considers Hailey his primary caregiver, Scott an absolute nuisance, and Frank his friend.
Physical appearance[]
Beta is naturally a small blue phone-like device with a cyan colored simplistic face of two eyes and a mouth. This piece is attached to a simple pink teddy bear body, thus making him resemble a rather minuscule child.
Powers and abilities[]
Beta has displayed fighting capabilities and can apparently handle various weapons, as long as he can hold them in his tiny hands. As a phone, he is capable of making calls, performing internet searches and streaming.
In addition, Beta has been fit with an automatic memory wipe function that would go into effect once his battery has been depleted. This feature was installed in the event he was compromised, such as being captured by government agents.
Role in the series[]
Beta is a robot from the future sent by the Professor to make sure Hailey completes everything on her to do list and stop Chaos Bots from completing their mission to save the future. About a week after being assigned to help Hailey, she makes him a body out of a stuffed bear and a junior robotics kit. He attempts to get her to kiss Scott and tells her about time glitches when she tries to change a list item. When Scott arrives, he tries to tell the boy about the kiss list item, but Hailey prevents him and he then suggests she ride every ride at the county fair. As he scouts out the fairgrounds, he is mistaken for a toy and place on a prize rack. He is later found by Hailey after Scott gets together with Kristine Sanchez and tells her she has less than one percent chance of kissing Scott.
After helping Hailey perform list items, the list is stained when Hailey stops Scott from seeing the kiss item, with Hailey making up someone named Sanjay Singh to keep Scott in the dark on the kiss item, and a flying Chaos Bot emerges with multiple people seeing it. The following day, he, Hailey, and Scott go into the woods to find and destroy the bot and they use the list as bait after Hailey refuses to tell Scott about the kiss item. The bot gets the list but Beta destroys it. However he is caught by government agents. Upon learning his memory will be wiped when his battery dies, Hailey and Scott break into the facility with the help of Omega- a new A.I. helper the Professor gave Hailey- and successfully escape. They manage to recharge Beta once they return to Hailey's room using the bot's power source. Scott leaves to speak with Kristine and the Professor arrives to tell Hailey she cannot have been Beta and Omega with her and she chooses to keep Beta much to everyone’s surprise, including him. After the Professor leaves, Hailey and Beta thank each other for being there for the other as he detects that the kiss Scott item is now much more likely due to Kristine breaking up with him.
As Scott mourns his relationship with Kristine, Beta encourages Hailey to confess to Scott, but she is reluctant as he was just dumped. After seeing a commercial for Catalina Island, they decide to take Scott there to cheer him up, only succeeding after Scott has a near death experience. As they have dinner at Cuddle Cove, Beta prepares a confession to help Hailey tell Scott about the kiss item. However, after Kristine calls Hailey and the latter tells the former about someone liking Scott, Kristine makes Hailey promise to keep him away from that girl, unaware it is Hailey. Hailey then body slams the cake with her confession on it to keep Scott from knowing, confusing Beta and Scott and getting the two banned from the restaurant.
During a party, he attempts to rig a game to get Hailey and Scott to kiss, even impersonating Sanjay Singh when she was dared to prank call her crush. When he rigs it so that Scott and Hailey can kiss, she backs out of it, wanting the kiss to mean something.
During a rainy day, Beta tells Hailey and Scott to take the day off as they are fifteen list items ahead of schedule. He detects another A.I.- Alphred, a cleaning robot - and suspects he is a Chaos Bot in disguise. As Beta tries to prove his theory, Alphred tries to sink up with him. Beta rejects, but Alphred eventually succeeds and realizes he is one of Beta's predecessors and the two quickly bond.
On his pre-birthday- Beta's birthday before he was made- he is exited but disappointed when Hailey and Scott seemingly forget. However they reveal it to be a rouge and surprise him with tickets to see and meet his favorite wrestling Rowdy Russ. After Hailey gets a book to learn to hypnotize someone, they decide to hypnotize Scott to act like different animals depending on the trigger, much to Beta's amusement. After they tryout the triggers, they learn the instructions to undo the hypnosis is in a different volume and Hailey orders it using two day shipping and tells Scott to stay home for the next forty eight hours to avoid triggers. But he refuses and they go to the wrestling match and after Scott inadvertently offends Rowdy Russ due to the trigger, Rowdy Russ demands Scott wrestle him. While Beta is exited to see the match, Hailey suggests they leave and he becomes upset, but Scott insists he fight Rowdy Russ. Things go poorly for Scott until Hailey uses the triggers to give him and advantage and Scott wins. After earning Rowdy Russ's respect, they convince him to perform his signature move, the Real Moon Landing, on Beta. Rowdy Russ agrees and Beta is overjoyed.
When Kristine wins Hat House and quickly becomes old news, Beta suggests asking her blessing to date Scott, but Hailey is reluctant to do so in Kristine’s current mental state. Eventually Kristine gets over her funk and loses all romantic feelings for Scott, allowing Hailey to ask him out. After making a notarized document about asking out Scott to the Totally 80s To The Max Dance, Hailey losses it in a book she donated and they spend the day trying to track it down only to learn Hailey's mother found it before donating it and gives her daughter advice on how to handle her crush.
As the dance approaches, Beta encourages her to ask Scott out when a new dating app called SnackMatch sweeps through the school and Hailey and Scott get lobster and cookie respectively, two results that do not match. After Scott is paired with Destiny and pressured into going to the dance with her. Hailey asks Sanjay- who is real- to go with her instead. At the dance, Beta encourages Hailey to confess to Scott like she promised, but she decides against it- believing her crush is one sided and unaware that Scott now has feelings for her- and dates Sanjay. When the Chaos Bot arrives, he destroys it, but not before A.C. Aychvak sees it and it sees him. After Scott witnesses a time glitch, Beta reluctantly reveals the kiss item to him.
Relationships[]
Hailey Banks[]
Beta lives to serve Hailey, however, he does not mince words with her and is very open. Due to his programming, he is constantly urging her to finish tasks on her list and is always having to put up with her, perceived to be, procrastination. Beta sometimes acts almost like a paternal figure and occasionally loses his temper with her as seen in "Dance Like No Mom is Watching", and wishes she could take the list completion seriously. At times, he implies that he sees himself as Hailey's best friend, though Hailey does not see it that way. The two still care about each other and Beta constantly puts himself in danger to help or save her.
Scott Denoga[]
Beta despises Scott with every fiber of his being, though ironically Scott does not feel the same, which actually seems to frustrate Beta. Beta tends to bully and belittle Scott for his intelligence and constantly refers to him as a "buffoon". Additionally, he takes great pleasure in throwing insults and seeing Scott suffer some kind of misfortune, though he rarely gets to enjoy it as Scott shows a high tolerance to pain. Despite this, Beta does occasionally give kudos to Scott when he is right about something as seen in "We Wish You A Merry Chaos-mas", though he is understandably flabbergasted as well. In "I Wanna Dance With My Buddy", when Hailey decides not to confess to Scott at the dance and unintentionally causes a time glitch, Beta is forced to reveal to him the list item that Hailey has been hiding from him which is to kiss him.
All-in-all, as much as Beta thinks abysmally of Scott, he ultimately only tolerates him for pragmatic purposes, i.e. for Hailey to kiss him since she wrote it in her jounral.
Frank the Flamingo[]
At first, Beta was surprised that Hailey adopted a flamingo- expecting a dog instead- and ran from Frank when he tried to eat him- thinking the AI was a shrimp. However, Beta soon warmed up to Frank and often used the flamingo as a form of transportation.
