Binoculars were a type of hand-held device used to view objects at a distance and a recruiting object that appeared in the Star Wars franchise.
Usage[]
Binoculars are primarily used for reconnaissance, observation, and military purposes. Characters often use them to scout enemy positions, survey landscapes, or assess distant targets. Military organizations, like Scout Troopers using binoculars for battlefield reconnaissance. The Jedi Order and other explorers using binoculars to navigate or monitor alien environment. Specialized binoculars like macrobinoculars, which offer enhanced features, like zoom, heat sensors, or targeting systems. Some binoculars were worn by clone troopers over helmet visors, often with polarized lenses.
Known Types of Binoculars[]
- Macrobinoculars are a type of long-range, zoomable device used for reconnaissance and surveillance. They are commonly used by military forces, scouts, and explorers to observe distant targets or locations. These binoculars have a larger, more powerful zoom than standard binoculars and are often depicted with advanced features such as night vision or enhanced targeting capabilities.
- Electrobinoculars are a more advanced and versatile type of binoculars that combine optical and electronic technology. They are equipped with features like electronic targeting, night vision, or the ability to detect heat signatures, making them ideal for military reconnaissance, surveillance, and navigation in difficult environments.
- Quadnoculars are a rare and more specialized form of binoculars that provide a four-lens system, often giving a wider or more detailed field of vision. They are less common in the Star Wars films but appear in certain expanded media and are generally considered an advanced form of visual technology, typically designed for highly specific tactical or exploratory functions.
Known Binoculars[]
- MB450 macrobinoculars: A type of macrobinoculars that allowed users to see objects at a distance clearly. They included an aid which relayed the distance and altitude of objects, and could also be used when it was dark. Some versions of the macrobinoculars possessed a recording function which allowed for the saving of pictures. Luke Skywalker owned a set of MB450s that he used to observe a group of Tusken Raiders following his hunt for R2-D2.
- Model TD2.3 electrobinoculars: A type of electrobinoculars that is used for detailed surveillance, targeting, and reconnaissance. They include features like night vision, electronic targeting, and heat sensors.
- TE4.4 field quadnoculars: A model of quadnoculars manufactured by Neuro-Saav. Poe Dameron used these on Jakku
- TG4.4 field quadnoculars: A model of quadnoculars that combined traditional macrobinoculars with an electronic imaging objective plate. Poe Dameron owned a set of TG4.4 quadnoculars while searching for the Sith Wayfinder.
- TE1.3 Quadnoculars: A model of quadnoculars manufactured by Neuro-Saav. Bodhi Rook used a set of TE1.3 quadnoculars while being on Scarif.
- QD4.4 Electroquadnoculars: A type of quadnoculars produced by Neuro-Saav. They were used by Stormtroopers on the moon Jedha. The outer lenses could collect data from spectrums outside of those visible to the naked eye.
- Q4-E quadnoculars: A model of quadnoculars manufactured by Fabritech. They were equipped with an imaging screen surface that captured the approach of Imperials.
- 9.5D electromonocular: A model of electromonocular manufactured by Fabritech, that was compact.
- D0E24 electrobinoculars: A model of electrobinoculars manufactured by Lydree. They were gray in color and semi-circular in shape, with ribbed hand grips and two lenses.
- GG4 holorecording electrobinoculars: A model of electrobinoculars that can record holographic footage and had a viewscreen which showed whatever was being viewed with a turquoise tint.
- KP-3 "Kickplate" Macrobinoculars: A model of macrobinoculars manufactured by Neuro-Saav Corp. They had a gray, weatherproof plastoid exterior and two lenses, one of which was a light-gathering objective lens.
