The Birds are the titular characters from the 1931 Silly Symphony short Birds of a Feather.
Role in the short[]
Three swans are first seen swimming in a lake, taking turns honking as they paddle across, followed by a black swan swimming in the lake, revealing two cygnets behind her wings. As they swim to follow their mother, the black swan uses her head to catch food underwater, the second one being caught in a boot, causing it to be stuck in her head, just before the cygnets follow along. A peacock struts by the lake and paces just before spreading his tail in the shape of a fan, just before a duckling becomes jealous of his tail, causing him to be insulted by him. Two lyrebirds use each others' tails as harps on flat land by some trees while some sparrows sing along with a bird nest above them. As three eggs hatch from a mother bird's nest, hummingbirds above pollinate flowers as they him. Bluebirds and jays take turns chirping while being interrupted by cuckoos making their own sounds. Two toucan-like birds - one normal and one big take turns squawking while a long toucan-like bird uses his tail to walk on a branch while dancing along.
Elsewhere, a woodpecker pecks on a tree to find a caterpillar hiding inside, which it tries to get away from him but is suddenly eaten. Later, three owls hoot together as they harmonize through their hoots just before a crow sneaks to another nest where a magpie is giving worms to her three chicks. The crow sneakily tricks the magpie and steals the worm from her and delivers it to three hatchlings hiding inside a scarecrow, only for the worm to escape being chased by a hen and her chicks. Walking past a coop, a singular chick gets into a struggle with the worm, but is unlucky in eating it. Suddenly, above the hen and her chicks is a hawk flying over them. Seeing the hawk, he swoops towards them as the he defends her chicks from them while the lone chick gets captured by the hawk.
A blackbird rallies the other birds forming a bird squadron, which they plan to rescue the chick from getting eaten by the hawk. The bird squadron engages in a dogfight against the hawk where they attack him all at once. As the dogfight continues, another blackbird dives towards the hawk and pecks him repeatedly on the head just as the other birds dive at him all at once, causing him to lose his plumage and being unable to fly. The captured chick gets rescued by the bird squadron unharmed and later hears the hen and her children crying. However, the mother sees the chick unharmed just as she and her children celebrate that he is safe after all.
