The Birds are the titular characters from the 2000 Disney/Pixar animated short, For the Birds.

Background[]

The birds are a group of fifteen blue birds as their names imply which land on a powerline competing for space on it. When a group of fifteen birds land on the powerline, they constantly squawk and squabble for space, as a larger blue bird appears as the other birds taunt him, to which the big bird tells the birds the he wants to sit next to them. However, it is figured out that the big bird is making the birds uncomfortable due to his size in which the other birds begin attacking him and planning to launch him using the powerline as a slingshot to dispatch him. However, the big bird falls off the powerline, launching the other birds instead, causing them to lose their plumage, leaving them unable to fly while the big bird laughs at them, much to the other featherless birds' worry.

Appearances[]

For the Birds[]

In the short, Bully, the first bird, lands on the powerline where he shakes himself followed by Chipper who lands next to him. Bully nudges Chipper telling him to give him some space in which Snob, Neurotic, and various other birds appear next to each other, forming a group of fifteen blue birds. However, the blue birds find a misfit bird, the big bird, on their powerline as they taunt him after seeing his unique appearance.

As the big bird approaches them, the other birds are unsure what to do with him to which the big bird lands on a spare space only to find out that size is the one making them feel uncomfortable as they angrily squawk at him in which one of the birds pecks him, causing him to hang upside-down on the powerline. Two of the birds angrily peck him to get him off the powerline while the other birds chant to dispatch the big bird only for them to be flung into the air with the powerline used as a slingshot after the big bird falls on the ground (causing the birds to lose their feathers). The fifteen blue birds then land on the ground with no plumage, losing their ability to fly, just as the big bird laughs at them, much to the other featherless birds' worry.

Other appearances[]

In Cars, the birds from For the Birds appear for a split-second during the scene where Mack is taking Lightning McQueen to California during the "Life is a Highway" sequence.

The birds also appear in Kinect Rush: A Disney/Pixar Adventure and its remaster where they appear in the hub world serving as NPC characters.

In Inside Out, the birds can be briefly seen at the beginning of the film where Riley and her family are driving to San Francisco.

Trivia[]

  • The birds featured during the "Life is a Highway" sequence in Cars are unique animals in the aforementioned universe, as they are one of the only animals to not be car-ified (unless one counts the baby bumblebee from the teaser trailer which Mater crashed into, which is also not car-ified).
  • The first four birds that land on the powerline are named Bully, Chipper, Snob, and Neurotic respectively as revealed on the official Pixar website.
    • On a similar note, those four birds were the birds in front of the cloud when they first landed on the wire as seen in the picture of them laughing above. However, then when they moved away from the cloud as seen in the also above picture of the birds whispering, the viewer cannot tell where the first four are because now all the birds become one.
