The Blockade Runner (officially known as CR90 Corellian Corvette) is a small multi-purpose corvette used by the Rebel Alliance. The ship can boost its engine power to get away from any fight it can not win, especially against bigger frigates and capitol ships. One ship, the Tantive IV, was owned by Bail Organa and his adoptive daughter, Leia Organa. Its weaponry complement consists of two turrets and four turbolasers mounted on each dorsal escape pods. When not being used as a blockade runner, the CR90 was generally used as an anti-starfighter screen, protecting larger ships from bombers and clearing a path for the Rebels' own bombers to attack larger ships.
During Order 66, Bail Organa set out to rescue Jedi who survived Order 66, he and his crew managed to rescue Yoda and pick up Obi-Wan Kenobi who escaped in General Grievous's fighter. They then flew to Coruscant to sent a warning to any surviving Jedi not to return to the Jedi Temple as the message is a trap. Later, Bail flew his ship to Polis Massa where Padme gave birth to her children: Luke and Leia and then flew to Naboo to tend to Padme's funeral. Bail later flew his ship back to Alderaan with Leia to raise as his own.
Trivia[]
The design for the Blockade Runner was originally intended to be for the Millennium Falcon. However, the design of the Falcon was changed, due to concerns of it looking similar to the transport ships in the show Space 1999. The original Falcon design has some touches made on it, to become the Blockade Runner.
The Blockade Runner is the first Star Wars ship we see in the beginning of "Star Wars: A New Hope".
