You know what we call that? Denial. Can you say denial?
―Bloofy to The Emotions

Bloofy is a minor character in DisneyPixar's 2024 animated feature film Inside Out 2. He is a character from Bloofy's House, Riley's favorite childhood TV show who asks questions to a nonexistent-child audience.

Physical appearance[]

Bloofy appears as a small, anthropomorphic, freckled, buck-toothed, teal-eyed purple cartoonish dog with a dark spot around his right eye. His snout, ears, and tail are all dark purple in various shades. He wears a blue baseball cap with matching shoes. Bloofy also wears a sentient yellow fanny pack over his waist.

Role in the film[]

When Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Fear find themselves locked in the Vault, they hear Bloofy talking to the viewers on how to say the word "Denial", much to the Emotions' shock. Joy and Disgust recognize Bloofy from his own TV show that Riley used to watch, just as he secretly tells the Emotions that Riley still likes watching the show. Bloofy then sings a snippet of the theme song for Bloofy's House, much to Anger feeling irritated and Joy asking him to help him get out of the jar. Bloofy then asks the viewers to help find a way out; Anger asks Bloofy who he is talking to, to which Bloofy replies that he is talking to the viewers to help him find a key. However, the conversation becomes interrupted when the Emotions encounter Lance Slashblade and the Deep Dark Secret within the Vault.

After Bloofy introduces the Emotions to the Dark Secret within the Vault and Joy requests Lance to help them escape the jar, he then talks to the viewers of how to help the Emotions get out of the jar in order to them to escape; Lance replies to him that he was banished to the Vault, along with Bloofy himself and the Dark Secret. After Joy asks the Dark Secret to help her and the emotions get out of the jar, Bloofy congratulates him for doing a good deed. He then tells everyone inside the Vault to call for his friend Pouchy. As they all shout Pouchy's name, Bloofy devises a plan to help him and the survivors inside the Vault escape. Pouchy replies to him that he has a lot of items stored inside him and amongst some of them he suggests are a tomato, a frog, or a stick of dynamite; Anger impatiently grabs the dynamite to use it to help them escape the Vault, exploding a path for them to escape. Upon doing so, Bloofy encourages everyone to sing the "We Did It" song, which the Emotions tell him that they have no time to sing it. He does not appear again throughout the rest of the film.

  • His name is similar to those of three other well-known animated cartoon dogs - Goofy, Bluey, and Blue from Blue's Clues.
  • Bloofy is the first traditionally hand-drawn character in a CG animated feature length film made by Pixar.
    • However, he is not the first traditionally hand-drawn character Pixar ever made. The first were the title characters in the short, Day & Night.
  • Because he breaks the fourth wall by talking to a non-existent child audience, he may be inspired by similar children's TV characters who do the same thing, including: Steve, Joe, and Josh from Blue's Clues and Blue's Clues & You!; Dora Márquez from Dora the Explorer; Diego, Click, Rescue Pack, and Alicia from Go, Diego Go; Leo, June, Quincy, and Annie from Little Einsteins; Mickey Mouse and friends from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse; Darby from My Friends Tigger & Pooh; Jake, Izzy, Cubby and Skully from Jake and the Never Land Pirates; Pee-Wee Herman from Pee-Wee's Playhouse; Whyatt Beanstalk/Super Why from Super Why!; Monkey from Monkey See, Monkey Do; Milli, Geo, and Bot from Team Umizoomi; Blaze and AJ from Blaze and the Monster Machines; Kai-Lan and her friends from Ni Hao Kai-lan; Jack from Jack’s Big Music Show; and Wally Trollman from Wallykazam!; among others.
  • His design is similar to classic Disney characters: Mickey Mouse and Goofy, as well as Doki from the Latin American Discovery Kids channel and the Canadian series of the same name and Blue from Blue's Clues.
    • His concept art shows him in a similar pose to Mickey Mouse in promotional art for the Mickey Mouse series.
    • Bloofy's House may be a combination parody of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Pee-Wee's Playhouse.
  • Bloofy begins to sing a "we did it" song, which is a reference to what happens at the end of each Dora the Explorer episode as well as some episodes of the sequel spin-off Dora and Friends: Into the City!.
