Blossom-Nose Murphy, as named by Sam, is a character from the former Disneyland attraction America Sings.
History[]
Background[]
Blossom-Nose Murphy is a drunken goose who is caught by a police officer (an anthropomorphic dog). After the cop caught him, he attempted to arrest Murphy who ended up singing the musical number "Sweet Adeline" where performing his rendition of said song in a drunken manner, causing the cop to react to Murphy's singing in shock.
Development history[]
The Blossom-Nose Murphy character was created in the former America Sings attraction which was created for the America Sings attraction at Disneyland in the Tomorrowland section where he was placed in the "Gay Nineties" sequence where he sang the song, "Sweet Adeline", which opened on June 29, 1974. However, America Sings closed on April 10, 1988 in order to retheme the attraction to Innoventions, resulting in most of the animatronics moved to Splash Mountain at the Critter Country section, which opened on July 17, 1989.
As of 2020 due to Splash Mountain being completely reimagined into a theme inspired by The Princess and the Frog in order to remove references to Song of the South, it is currently unknown of what will replace Murphy's animatronic in the rethemed version of the attraction. The California version of Splash Mountain permanently closed on May 31, 2023.
Appearances[]
Disney Parks[]
America Sings[]
Blossom-Nose Murphy appeared in the former America Sings attraction where he was seen during the "Sweet Adeline" musical number in a drunken manner. Throughout his act, he sang "Sweet Adeline" while being held by a police while an offscreen chorus repeats his lines. At the end of the song, the police officer holding Murphy hiccups (implying that the cop who caught Murphy also got the hiccups), just before the song loops to the Ol' Gray Mare singing her part.
Splash Mountain[]
In the Disneyland version, Blossom-Nose Murphy could be seen at the "Everybody's Got a Laughing Place" sequence where he could be seen singing next to Br'er Chicken and Saddlesore Swanson in Rainbow Hollow.
