Blurp is a character that appears in the 2023 Marvel Studios film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Background[]
Blurp is a furry F'saki, a species of alien animals that resemble small mammals with large eyes and ears, and a long tail. Blurp is initially the pet of Fitz-Gibbonok, a member of the United Ravagers, who carries him around on missions. Later, Blurp becomes the companion of Adam Warlock, a powerful being created by the Sovereign leader Ayesha, who seeks to destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy for stealing from her. Blurp survives several dangerous situations with Adam and the Guardians and eventually joins the new Guardians team led by Rocket Raccoon at the end of the film.
Blurp was created by James Gunn, the writer and director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as a throwback to a non-furry F'saki that appeared in the first film as a creature used for gambling by the Ravagers. Gunn joked that Blurp was "probably the most important character to the Marvel Universe going forward" in an interview with Empire Magazine. Blurp was designed by visual effects artist Ryan Meinerding, who based his appearance on a mix of different animals, such as rabbits, squirrels, and lemurs. Blurp was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, who also provided vocal effects for other alien creatures in the film. Blurp's name was chosen by Gunn as a reference to his own pet cat, whose nickname was Blarp.
