Would someone please create a petition to have Eilonwy become a Official Disney Princess on Change.org if one of you have an account on it, if you don I'll sign. For she's perfect to be an Official Disney Princess

I'm sorry but how many times must I explain this?
Key words: "back then"
Okay, so The Black Cauldron is PG. The Black Cauldron might be popular, sometimes it is scary for children.
Now it's 12, you know you can always check it yourself
Or you can always vote for Eilonwy here.
If Eilonwy should be in the lineup, then Megara, Kida, and maybe Giselle should be in it too.
They're in this petition! https://www.change.org/p/john-s-chen-add-other-disney-heroines-to-the-disney-princess-lineup
Yes! How about petition for Kuzco and Malina to be in Disney Prince and Princess.

I don't know how Edgar Rice Burroughs enters into the equation, so I can't comment there.
I also agree that the others should not be included (and frankly, I'm not even sure how Mulan even qualifies as such, especially when most kids would not be familiar with that process you mentioned with her). Not sure about Giselle (what does "royalty payments" have anything to do with whether she was a DP? I thought she was directly created by Disney, or am I mistaken about that?)? And as far as Sally, we've already GOT Merida for a DP who wasn't actually made by Disney (which including her was a really huge mistake), I really don't want another non-Disney character (ie, a character not directly made by Disney) to get the spot.
Regarding your other point regarding non-profitability (I presume you're referring to Elionwy), correct me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't Sleeping Beauty technically unprofitable, actually killing off any princess/fairy-tale related movies until The Little Mermaid, certainly permanently within Walt Disney's lifetime because it's net was inferior compared to its gross or something like that?
Jasmine was the main love interest, and Aurora was the titular "Sleeping Beauty". Tiger Lily is an extra who barely had any screen time or purpose within the narrative. Another point to mention, Tiger Lily is one of the Indians from Peter Pan. She is one of the racist stereotype "What Makes the Red Man Red?" Indians from a '50s movie. I'm not sure, but that might not be something Disney would want to promote in the modern era.
The estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs is presumably what kept Deep Jungle from reappearing in Kingdom Hearts after the first one.
Adding Giselle to the lineup would mean Disney would have to keep paying Amy Adams, the actress who plays Giselle, lifetime royalties so they can continue using her image. They would need to keep paying her a fee as long as she's alive so they can keep using her image for merchandise. Repeated payments over a long period of time have a habit of adding up. The same goes for Nancy Tremaine.
Sleeping Beauty was not successful initially, but it became more successful with re-releases, the same way Alice in Wonderland did. The Black Cauldron failed to do the same. Sleeping Beauty is regarded as one of the great Walt Disney classics, it has one of Disney's best villains, and it's on blu-ray. The Black Cauldron... it's got a cult following, that's about it.
Still minor characters and not the main protagonists, which you basically implied with that post.
As far as Edgar Rice Burroughs (I presume you're referring to Tarzan, I guess), I don't think the Tarzan even had any princesses in that movie.
Regarding Giselle, why's paying royalties going to be so costly that it would not be affordable? After all, what's different with her and what they do with Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, etc., etc.? You do realize they would have to do the same with the other Disney Princess characters, right? Including Jodi Benson and Ariel? By that logic, there wouldn't even BE a Disney Princess franchise to begin with as Disney is constantly paying their VAs royalties.
And as far as Black Cauldron, TVTropes indicates that it's reaching beyond cult following with the uncut version.
Let me explain this in terms you will understand.
This is what Ariel and Jodi Benson look like side by side.
Jodi Benson does not resemble Ariel. Ariel's image is fully owned by the Walt Disney company. The Walt Disney company is allowed to use Ariel because Ariel does not have the same image as Jodi Benson. Ariel does not look like Jodi Benson.
This is what Giselle and Amy Adams look like side by side.
Giselle was modeled after and played in live-action by Amy Adams. Amy Adams looks just like Giselle, and Giselle looks just like Amy Adams. To use Giselle for merchandise would mean paying lifetime royalties to Amy Adams, because Giselle looks like Amy Adams.
And that is why they don't have to pay the voice actors royalties to use the characters they voice for merchandise, whereas they would have to pay an on-screen actor royalties to use her character. Hasbro has to pay Robert Downey Jr. royalties for Tony Stark figures, but they don't have to do the same with Ryan Potter, because Ryan Potter does not play his character on-screen in live-action.
Okay then. I don't know why Disney wanted to hide Eilonwy's story way back then. If you wanted to stop the bad things of The Black Cauldron, you should make it popular by marketing ( and merchandises ), of course! Why Disney didn't know that. And also Disney Princesses like Aurora aren't famous ( I didn't see her famous ) but she got a lot of support.
