I have heard a lot of "Ren and Stimpy" fans believing that "Shnookums and Meat" was a rip-off of that show, due to its unfunny gags and nature, cheesy storylines, and poor animation. I, however, love that show, as well as "Ren and Stimpy", and what if the show had improved...?
Before we get to this topic at hand, I would like to talk to you about my history with "Shnookums and Meat": when I was little, I only saw it one time where Doris Deer ran for her life from some scary criminal, which was the "Pith Possum" segment, "Son of the Cursed Black of Darkness" a few years later. I also read about it in an encyclopedia about Disney's movies and shows, and when I was growing up, I realized that I did see it.Â
I also am a lover of underrated animation, such as "Marsupilami", Â "Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?", and "Rock-a-Doodle". Now, let's get down to business. For the characters such as Shnookums and Meat (the main duo), let's have them improve their personalities, but have them stay true to themselves. For the episodes, we need to have their storylines more logical, such as a reason why Ralph Bear and Al Dog framed Pith and Obediah in "Return of the Night of Blacker Darkness". Like "Garfield", "Animaniacs", and "Rocky and Bullwinkle", let's have them interact with the characters from their respective segments, like Super Water Buffalo and Dr. Paul Bunion being bullies to Shnookums and Meat in a crossover segment.
Relationships between heroes and heroines are important, such as Peter Possum and Doris Deer. There are times when I want to shout at Doris for breaking up with Peter at the end of "Haunt of the Night of Blacker Darkness". If the show had more episodes (26-65), there would have been a segment where Pith Possum would find himself in a big jam with the villains and Doris. If he did have the guts, he would show her his true identity to the reporter, and there would be a cliffhanger (like most "Tex Tinstar" segments).
For other Disney shows, take "Aladdin: The Series" for example: whenever Aladdin and his friends stumble upon an important clue, Genie would turn into one of the characters, like Meat.
Like Walt Disney said, "It's kind of fun to do the impossible" and "If you can dream it, you can do it.", we could wish for the kinds of things to happen. Doesn't anybody agree with me?
