Bode de Sousa is the main antagonist of the animated series Iwájú. He is an influential crime boss and a tech criminal, responsible for the massive waves in kidnapping in Lagos in exchange for massive profits from wealthy parents.
Background[]
Bode was born as the impoverished son of a housekeeper to a wealthy islander in Lagos, who hated scraping by on small handouts from the wealthy patrons of the island that looked down on him and his family. One day, he decided to steal some money from his mother's employer to purchase a gold chain for himself, later being uncovered. As a punishment, Bode and his mother were banished from the island, causing Bode to desire revenge against the wealthy residents of the island for his disenfranchised status.
Personality[]
Bode presents himself as a friendly and courteous man of the people, but he is a scheming, conniving, and short-tempered miser that gains the trust of the poor solely to exploit their poverty for his uses and hoards wealth from his gang to take for himself. He also regularly takes advantage of the poor, forcing them into his service and declaring they owe him their lives for his aid.
Bode is strikingly arrogant and pompous. He carries himself with an air of grand importance, while having low opinions of the wealthy from the island who he believes himself to see problems as something to throw money at and voices distaste of their callousness despite longing to be rich himself. As such, he refuses to trust anyone from the island, regardless of if they are adults or children, and carries the chain he bought through theft from his mother's rich patrons as a child to remind himself of his distaste of the wealthy elite of Lagos. He also carries great aggression, willing to use his size and strength to bully others into submission if manipulation and extortion fails.
Beneath the grandiosity of his character, Bode is a selfish coward. When trouble occurs, he will always hide behind his bodyguards and rely on them to subdue the situation—rather than jumping into action himself. In the end, he even tried to throw his minions into trouble to escape captivity despite promising them to never let them struggle.
Despite his flaws, Bode does have a heart to some degree. When Kole announced that he didn't have enough money to pay off his debts and offered what little he had, Bode told him to keep his funds and informed that he was a man of his word in his promise to collect on his payments at a later time.

Bode is a massive man, who towers over most people and wears a fanciful blue and gold Agbada Embroidery Bazin Boubou Outfit, with various jewelry to show off his wealth.
