Buddy Calvin-Claus (also known as "Cal Calvin")[1] is a protagonist in the Disney+ original series, The Santa Clauses. He is the son of Scott Calvin and Carol-Newman Calvin, and the paternal younger half-brother to Scott's older son, Charlie. He also is Sandra Calvin-Claus's biological older brother. He was named after grandfather Bud Newman.
Background[]
Personality[]
Cal is described "lacks drive and focus, is not sure what he wants but knows it's not at the North Pole, and appears ill-equipped to survive in either world, although that might be slowly changing."[2]
Powers and abilities[]
Powers[]
Cal possesses the exceptional ability to perceive magical phenomena associated with Christmas, inherited from his father who assumes the role of Santa Claus. These extraordinary properties encompass the sighting of small, luminous portals that elude the visual perception of his sister.
Appearances[]
Buddy Calvin-Claus was born on December 25, 2005 to Carol Newman-Calvin and Scott Calvin at the North Pole.
The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause[]
Buddy makes his debut in a brief scene at the end of the film, as a baby. Prior to his birth, his mother believed the baby was going to be a girl.
While Buddy was still in his mother's womb, his existence briefly ceases to be after Scott is tricked by Jack Frost into using the Escape Clause, which creates an alternate timeline in which Scott forfeits the role of Santa and causes his marriage to Carol to have never happened. This also results in Buddy's conception never occurring. However, Buddy's un-existence is quickly fixed after his father takes the role of Santa back from Frost and restores the proper timeline.
The Santa Clauses[]
Season One[]
Buddy is now a teenager living at the North Pole with his parents and his younger sister, Sandra. He spends most of his time playing with his VR headset. When his father announces that he plans to retire as Santa Claus, Buddy must adjust to life outside the North Pole. However, he expresses excitement at getting to experience normal things, such as meeting a crossing guard, or participating in jury duty.
When Scott must chose a successor as Santa, he considers Buddy after Charlie turns down the offer. Scott tries, unsuccessfully, to teach him how to drive the sleigh, resulting in Scott needing to seek a replacement elsewhere.
When Simon Choksi is summoned to the North Pole to interview as a potential Santa successor, Buddy is tasked with watching Simon's daughter, Grace, and showing her around the workshop. After he breaks a doll-making machine, Grace runs off to hang out with Sandra instead.
After Simon accepts the job as Santa, Buddy and the rest of the Claus family are sent to live in the real world. Buddy and his sister are shocked at how different their father looks outside of the North Pole, but his shock is quickly replaced with excitement when he states that it is eight degrees above zero outside and he and Sandra leave the house to have a snowball fight.
Season Two[]
Cal's father Scott Calvin decides that he wants to passed down the family business to Cal Calvin-Claus as the next "Santa Claus".
