He is a hitman, mercenary, and assassin that often supports with the top crime bosses of the criminal underworld. Not only is he an extraordinary marksman, but in his hands, anything is a weapon, and he almost never misses, hence his supervillain codename. Kingpin had him incriminate Daredevil, and for a considerable amount of time Bullseye acts as both Kingpin's main enforcer and Kingpin's inside man on the FBI. In the end, Daredevil managed to defeat Bullseye.
Bullseye was created by Marv Wolfman and Bob Brown.
Appearances
Daredevil
Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter was introduced as an FBI agent who draws Wilson Fisk's attention after killing Albanian assailants who ambushed a caravan taking Fisk to the Presidential Hotel. Dex had diagnosed mental health issues and, since he was a child, had a gift for marksmanship with any thrown object. He served in the Army and joined the FBI as a sniper. Fisk orchestrated Dex's suspension and manipulated him into donning a replica Daredevil suit and carrying out hits in an attempt to both impugn Daredevil's reputation and neutralize threats to Fisk's resurgence.
Dex carried out a deadly attack on the New York Bulletin and attempted to kill Karen Page at Clinton Church, an attack that led to the murder of Father Paul Lantom. In both instances, he fought a masked Matt Murdock. After Agent Ray Nadeem testified to a grand jury about Fisk's crimes, Vanessa Marianna, Fisk's fiancée, told Dex to kill Nadeem, an order with which Fisk concurred. He later killed Agent Nadeem in his backyard the same evening.
Dex was reinstated to the FBI and got a call from Murdock, who learned of Julie's murder and told Dex the location of a freezer where her body was being stored. Dex drove to the Presidential Hotel to crash Fisk's wedding reception. As the Fisks retreated to their penthouse apartment, Dex and Murdock followed. Murdock and Fisk defeated Dex, with Fisk ultimately breaking his back. Dex is later shown on an operating table, with doctors performing an experimental surgery to restore his spine.
Deadpool & Wolverine
A variant of Bullseye based on his incarnation from the Daredevil film appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine as a member of Cassandra Nova's crew in the Void. He was eventually killed by Elektra Natchios in the last battle.
Daredevil: Born Again
Benjamin Poindexter appeared in the first episode in his classic Bullseye suit. Apparently, he killed Daredevil's best friend Foggy Nelson to get revenge on the hero. However, it was later revealed that Poindexter was hired by Vanessa Fisk to kill Nelson. After being defeated by Daredevil, Poindexter was arrested and sent to prison again.
Trivia
- Wilson Bethel previously auditioned for Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger, and even got so far as to wear the costume. He credits losing the role to him eventually getting the part of Bullseye.
- In the comics, Bullseye's real name is never elaborated on, though at one point he was called Lester. Benjamin Poindexter is merely a alias he uses, though in the Ultimate Marvel Comics continuity, this was his real name.
- Jason Statham was reportedly considered for the part, but passed. He claimed that he no interest in working on shows or movies that used a heavy amount of CGI or post-VFX. Many found this statement ironic, as Statham had previously expressed interest in playing Daredevil and he also starred in the Fast & Furious and Expendables franchises which feature a large amount of special effects.
