Caravan Pictures was a film production company arm of Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group (formerly Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group), formed by Roger Birnbaum and Joe Roth. In 1998, Spyglass Entertainment replaced Caravan Pictures. Its films were released by Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, and Hollywood Pictures.
The company's goal was to produce films that would not lock people down into multiple films and give a chance to screenwriters and smaller talent actors, while also casting bigger names in easily recognizable, yet bankable roles.
Description[]
The Caravan Pictures logo is a man wearing a hat, carrying a bag, and walking down a road (both the image and the title are a nod to the film Sullivan's Travels, about a filmmaker who seeks to make more meaningful movies—he sets out on his travels on foot in a similar shot, and at the end of the movie describes life as a "cockeyed caravan").
There were two variations of the logo. At the beginning of The Jerky Boys: The Movie, the logo plays as usual, but Johnny Brennan's off-screen voice yells, "Hey, silly ass! {whistles} Yo, I'm talking to you, where the hell do you think you're going, Buddy?" Kamal Ahmed then exclaims "Come back, Shane!" After the end credits of Inspector Gadget (Caravan Pictures' final movie), the man walks down as usual, but this time, a copter pops out his hat (similar to Inspector Gadget) and he flies out of the picture.
The company became defunct after 1999 and was absorbed into Spyglass Entertainment.
