"Career Day" is the second segment of the thirty-third episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on July 11, 2016 alongside "Galactech: How to Build a Robot-Pet", and is the second segment of the third episode in the second season.
Plot[]
In the Stellosphere's hangar, after Stella announces that the Callistos have arrived at the Tethoscape, Miles tells Loretta about it. However, Loretta needs to clean a spot off her sleeve. Miles has the same thing on his. Phoebe and Leo then appear, and are told by Miles and M.E.R.C. that they're excited about Career Day. Phoebe says that no matter who Miles and M.E.R.C. are paired up with, they'll have a galactic time spending time with them and seeing how they do their job. Miles hopes to ride a star sweeper and pick up space junk. Loretta hopes to study astronomy with Professor Rubicon. Leo then wonders who everyone will be paired with.
In the Tethoscape, Admirals Watson and Crick welcome everyone to the 329th annual Cosmic Explorers Career Day. Miles then meets Haruna, who hopes to be paired up with a monster space truck driver, and Blodger, who hopes to be paired up with a professional dirt collector. Crick decides to make the matches by wearing the bowl with the names. Haruna is paired with Ruggles, where he gets to teach a new activity to guests on Alarbus, Blodger is paired with Dethalian guards, where he learns how to guard things, Loretta is paired with Lucky Sinclair, where she gets to enjoy a day of doling out delicious desserts, and Miles is paired with Mr. Xylon, where he gets to learn how to deliver package. Miles hoped for something a little more exciting.
Miles and M.E.R.C. then meet Mr. Xylon in the Tomorrowland Mail Shuttle. Xylon says that the shuttle doesn't talk back like Stella does on Miles' ship. He also introduces Miles and M.E.R.C. to his co-pilot, TeeBeeDee. Miles and M.E.R.C. are told by Xylon that they have only one package to deliver, which is a "hum-zinger-doodle". Xylon assigns Miles the pilot's seat, impressing Miles, who thinks that Career Day won't be so bad after all.
Xylon and Miles initiate all systems, and after the shuttle detaches from the Tethoscape, Xylon enters coordinates for Planet Worlia. Although the ship isn't rocketing, TBD activates the stellar drive, making the shuttle go very fast. Miles had no idea a mail shuttle could go that fast. However, it's like Xylon says in the Tomorrowland Mail Service Motto: "No package too small, no distance too great. We'll get your stuff there and we'll never be late." Xylon tells Miles that he visits various places, and during the flight, he says that during flights like these, it's important to keep your strength up. Just then, the shuttle arrives at Worlia, where Xylon, Miles, and M.E.R.C. will pick up the package.
Xylon then introduces Nuala to Miles and M.E.R.C. Neeri appears, and sadly welcomes them. Today is Neeri's birthday, but her father, Martine, is still away. Martine is studying a comet that's far away from Worlia. Since he's been gone for months, Nuala gives shows Xylon the package that must be delivered to him no later than 8:30 Galactic Standard time. Xylon promises to get the package to Martine in time, and shrinks it for transport. Miles wishes Neeri a happy birthday and tells her that when he, M.E.R.C., and Xylon see Martine, they should tell him that Neeri misses him and wants him to sing her his birthday song. TeeBeeDee then places the package in Xylon's pocket, and the journey continues.
Miles wonders why the package has to be delivered by 8:30 Galactic Standard time. Xylon assumes that whatever's inside must be important. With 3:20 before 8:30, Miles stops the shuttle, and it is revealed that they'll be landing on a comet, one that Martine is studying. Miles then pilots the shuttle towards the comet, and Xylon vaporizes the big ice chunks with the shuttle's Flash Beams. Miles tries to land the shuttle, but an ice chunk deactivates one of the shuttle's engines. Miles then cuts the other engine and slide the shuttle in like a wild Blastboard as the shuttle reaches the surface, and it works.
With 1:42 seconds until 8:30, Xylon decides to stay to repair the shuttle while Miles and M.E.R.C. deliver the package to Martine. Scientists like Martine set up their labs inside the comet for protection. Miles and M.E.R.C. eventually find the tunnel, and meet Martine. Miles tells Martine that they're delivering the package, as Xylon is repairing his shuttle. Miles gives Martine the package, stating that it's from his family, which Martine misses. He also says that Neeri wishes she could hear Martine sing to her. Martine says that that is his family's tradition. Every year on Neeri's birthday, he sings her a special song, which he is going to miss.
Martine then opens the package, and reveals that it is a holo-transmitter, which is how we can see his family when he's far away. The thing is, his old one stopped working, and Martine thanks Miles for the delivery. Martine then turns it on, and sees Neeri and Nuala again at exactly 8:30. This is the reason why the package had to be delivered by 8:30; it's Neeri's birthday. Martine then sings Neeri the birthday song as Xylon joins in. Miles tells Xylon that he has the best job in the galaxy. Xylon says that sometimes he does.
With Career Day over, everyone goes through what they've learned. Haruna says that he did have something to learn at the spaceport; blastboarding. Blodger learned how to guard a door. Loretta learned how to be messy and like it. What Miles learned is, that you may think a job is one thing, but it can be more amazing than you ever dreamed.
