"Career Day" is the second segment of the third episode of the Disney Channel animated series Kiff.
On March 11, 2023, the episode was released early on Disney+.
Synopsis[]
Kiff and Barry get summer jobs at the city hall to help the citizens of Table Town in any way they can.
Plot[]
It is career day at Table Town Middle School, and the students are all determined to sign up for their preferred summer jobs before slots run out. Kiff rushes to sign up for a job at Table Town City Hall, only to discover that she is the only student interested in working there. Though Barry wants to sign up to be a garbage collector, he ends up choosing a job at City Hall to keep Kiff company.
On their first day of work at City Hall, Kiff and Barry are met by city manager Glarbin Gloobin. The two are underwhelmed by the facilities, and they also discover that Glarbin's employees have recently quit their jobs. Nonetheless, Kiff is still eager to help the people of Table Town by working at City Hall. Kiff and Barry receive a request to replace a broken traffic light bulb, but Glarbin requires them to fill out a large number of forms before they can change the bulb.
Kiff and Barry complete their paperwork, only to be told that the forms must be filled out in black ink, requiring them to start over. Frustrated, Kiff pushes the forms off her desk, unintentionally causing them to fall into a paper shredder. Glarbin sees that the forms are gone and assumes that Kiff and Barry finished filling them out, so the two go downtown and replace the bulb, which allows traffic to start moving again. Later, Ben and Quinn visit City Hall with the intent of getting married. Kiff discovers that the paperwork for marriage takes eight years to process, so she shreds the necessary forms and marries the two anyway.
As the day goes on, Kiff and Barry accomplish many more tasks around Table Town by shredding any forms that Glarbin requires them to fill out. However, they learn that Glarbin intends to file away their completed forms in the City Hall archive the following day. In a panic, Barry suggests to Kiff that they should shred all the forms in the archive, but after they do so, he realizes that the plan actually does nothing to address their problem.
The next day, Kiff and Barry explain the disappearance of the archived forms to Glarbin by claiming that the building was burgled. Meanwhile, the shredder has become overloaded with shredded forms. When Glarbin uses the shredder, it explodes and fills the entire building with paper shreds, making him realize the truth. Glarbin fires Kiff and Barry, but immediately after, the citizens of Table Town visit City Hall to express their gratitude for Kiff and Barry's helpful deeds. Glarbin's former employees also arrive and decide to work at City Hall again, convinced that the work environment is improving. Seeing that Kiff and Barry's actions have spurred meaningful change, Glarbin promises to tone down his obsession with protocol. As Glarbin cannot rehire Kiff and Barry because his old staff have returned, the two take on new summer jobs as garbage collectors.
