The Castle of Caspian is a location featured in the 2008 Disney/Walden Media adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
Background[]
The castle was built around the time the Telmarine dynasty began. Other predecessors of Caspian formerly ruled within this castle before their deaths with the last permanent ruler of the kingdom named "Caspian" being Caspian IX who was killed at some date prior to Miraz who succeeded him. Around the time where Miraz was alive, this place was sometimes called Miraz's Castle which was around the time during the Telmarine dynasty and that Miraz became king of the Telmarines as part of his plans to conquer Narnia. Following Miraz's death, Caspian X succeeded and later brought peace between Narnians and Telmarines.
Role in the film[]
Many Narnian years after the Pevensies became kings and queens of Narnia and returned to Earth, Queen Prunaprismia gives birth to a newborn son as the other servants are gathered to see his birth. Meanwhile, Glozelle approaches Miraz, telling him that his son is born where he tells the general that he was blessed for his desire to have a child just as he tells the him that he follows his orders.
Elsewhere, Cornelius walks across the castle, waking up Caspian where he alerts him that his aunt Prunaprismia gave birth to a newborn son, much to his shock. Just as Glozelle and a group of Telmarines are sent on a hunt for Caspian, Cornelius later escorts Caspian to help him escape the woods where the Telmarines won't follow him here just before he hands him Susan's Horn, explaining to Caspian that it took many years for him to find this object. He then advises Caspian to avoid using it, except for his greatest need. Caspian asks him if he could seen him again, which Cornelius replies that there is so much more for him to tell. Cornelius explains to Caspian that everything he knows is about to change just before Caspian departs using his horse where he gets past various Telmarines guards to avoid getting caught. Glozelle and the Telmarines chase Caspian across the castle grounds just before he finds himself in the woods.
The next day, Miraz attends the council in the throne where the Lords are discussing with each other about the excuse just before their king arrives. The Lords tell him that ever since Caspian IX passed away, they tell him that his nephew Caspian X has gone missing, trying to imagine of what would happen to the castle's fate without his nephew just before Glozelle enters. Miraz tells the council that Caspian X disappeared last night and was abducted by Narnians just before two guards take Trumpkin inside where he is held hostage. As Trumpkin was brought to Miraz, the latter begins to tell the council about planning to take over Narnia as he devises a plan to fight back against Narnia by assembling an army of Telmarines in a plan to find Prince Caspian and finish the plans their ancestors did in the past, much to Miraz's prejudice.
Cornelius later enters his study room where he approaches Miraz, telling him if there is anything particular that he seeks, which Miraz tells him that he already found what he was looking for for one of his soldiers. As Miraz asks him of Susan's Horn, Cornelius replies that the Horn was said to be magical to which he states that the Narnians believed it could summon their kings and queens of old as was the superstition and as Miraz asks him of what Caspian knows about this, Cornelius replies to Miraz that he forbade him from mentioning the old tales as Miraz states that it was him. Cornelius tells him that if Caspian does know of the Deep Magic, his lord would have good reason to be nervous just before two guards take him away.
That night, a gryphon flies to the castle carrying Edmund with him as part of the Narnians' plans to infiltrate the castle. As they land on one of the spires, a guard notices him just before the gryphon takes him out while Edmund uses a flashlight to signal the Old Narnians to help storm the castle. Later, a flock of gryphons are seen flying carrying Peter, Susan, Caspian, and Trumpkin flying on their way to the castle while the other Narnians below approach the castle and prepare to attack. Meanwhile, Reepicheep and two mice sneak across the castle as they see the gryphons bringing in the allies to storm the castle. Later, Susan kills a guard armed with a crossbow by firing an arrow at him while Peter takes on another guard. Asterius later approaches a guard and duels with him, only for him to be knocked out by Nikabrik while Reepicheep and the mice sneak past another room without waking up a cat, which they secretly tie up the cat and prevent him from pouncing. Later, Caspian returns to Cornelius' study area to know if he is present, only to find his remains which are his glasses. Peter arrives and alerts Caspian him that he doesn't have enough time, telling him that opening the gates is crucial.
Meanwhile, Reepicheep leads a surprise attack in taking out two guards just as they open a door where Trumpkin takes out a guard nearby while Caspian finds Cornelius at the dungeon. He then finds out that Cornelius was captured, rescuing him from the dungeon. Cornelius warns him to avoid underestimating Miraz what his father did must before just before Caspian approaches Miraz. Prunaprismia wakes up, telling him to put down his sword, only to be defended by Susan just as Caspian asks him if he wants the truth, telling his uncle if he really did kill his father. Prunaprismia later realizes of what Miraz did, just as the latter denounces his nephew for being fatherless, which the Queen screams, causing a commotion inside the castle. Meanwhile, Edmund drops his flashlight, causing a guard to curiously interact with while the Telmarines ring the bells to sound the alarm, causing a large group of Telmarine men to grab their weapons to get ready to fight. Peter, Susan, and Caspian rush outside trying to signal the Narnians while Edmund deals with two soldiers in combat to which his flashlight suddenly breaks. As the soldiers rush across the castle, Trumpkin, Reepicheep, and two other mice, begin rotating the gear to open the gates while the Narnians commanded by Glenstorm begin to charge across the castle and storm the place just as the gate suddenly opens just as Peter joins the battle.
During the siege, the Narnians violently clash with the Telmarines during night. Throughout the battle, a large group of archers above arm themselves with crossbows to kill the charging Narnians just before Edmund lands on one of them, causing the archer to fall to his death. Upon hearing this, the other archers begin firing their arrows, only for Edmund to escape while Miraz hears the commotion outside. A satyr named Tyrus leaps onto the balcony where Miraz is standing and attempts to kill him, but is struck by an arrow fired by Glozelle, leaving him wounded while Miraz kills him by pushing him off the balcony just before he orders his troops to close the gate. As the guards prepare to close the gate, Asterius holds it and prevents it from being closed while Peter tells the Narnians to retreat, escorting the survivors to safety.
Later, Edmund is confronted by two Telmarine soldiers, threatening to attack him just before he almost falls to his death. However, a gryphon rescues Edmund as the other Narnians are continuing to escape the castle. Later, Miraz approaches Glozelle who tells him to give the order, only for the latter to tell him that his soldiers are still in the castle grounds. As the soldiers begin to fire their arrows, Miraz fires his arrows at Asterius who is holding the gates, causing him to be killed as well as causing the gate to be lowered. Reepicheep later warns Peter that the drawbridge is being raised, leading him to escape right away just as the surviving Narnians remain trapped within the castle grounds (resulting the army to suffer from several casualties), while the gryphon continues bringing Edmund to safety.
The next day, Sopespian gives Miraz his crown, where he is crowned as the king while the Telmarine army begins to march across Beruna in a plan to fight off the Narnians. All the Telmarines cheer for Miraz during his coronation, where he is crowned as the king of the Telmarines.
After Miraz was killed, the castle where Queen Prunaprismia lives lost its king and after the Telmarines surrender to the Narnian army, the Narnians take Caspian to the castle where Caspian tells Aslan that everyone has assembled. Caspian then gives out a speech that Narnia should have their own land in peace and any Telmarines who want to stay and live in peace are welcome to, just as Glozelle and Prunaprismia accept the offer. Glozelle approaches Aslan who tells him that his future shall be good, as he spoke first. Peter then hands Caspian his sword, just as he and Susan found out that they will never return to Narnia again, since they learned all they can have from Narnia as Aslan explains that it is time for Edmund and Susan to live in their own world. Susan later kisses Caspian where she finds out that she will never see him again just before the Pevensies return to the real world with Caspian as the crowned king.
Trivia[]
- The scene where the Narnians storm the Telmarine castle was one of the most advanced scenes ever made. The battle sequence in the film featured a mix between live actors and CGI characters participating during the battle at the Telmarine castle, where it took weeks to film the scene before it was finished.[1]
