"Catch That IOTA!" is the first segment of the fifth episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on February 13, 2015 alongside "Mighty Merc".
Plot[]
The Callistos are maneuvering a probe to black hole NGC-4889. Miles locks it on target, and Phoebe tells Loretta to activate data collection scanners. When activated, Miles finds out that the probe is being stretched out, and Phoebe says that that's what black holes do when an object gets too close, which is called spaghettification. When the probe gathers all the data the Callistos need, Miles lets it go. This is the ninety-ninth successful mission the Callistos completed. If they complete one more, they will hit one hundred. Just then, Stella informs the Callistos of a transmission from Tomorrowland. Phoebe informs Miles to get Leo, who always turns off his Questcom when he is in inventor mode.
Miles finds Leo in his workshop just as Leo completes his newest invention: the Intelligent Outerspace Technical Assistant, or I.O.T.A. for short. The I.O.T.A. is designed to get into any machine, fix any glitch, and straighten up any mess. The machine also fixes M.E.R.C.'s sensors. Just as Miles and Leo exit the workshop and close its door, the I.O.T.A. crashes into it, causing it to behave badly.
The Callistos then call Admirals Watson and Crick, the latter sleeping. Watson congratulates the Callistos of another successful mission, but informs them that their next one may be their toughest yet. He shows a display of Ambassador Titus of the Fastidian Empire, who is never happy because his solar system is the only one in the Milky Way Galaxy that refuses to join the Tomorrowland Alliance. When Titus was invited to see Tomorrowland, things did not go so well, because Titus does not like anything messy, noisy, or disorderly. Watson then informs the Callistos that the mission is to take the Ambassador home and show him how amazing they are, and if they impress him enough, he may join the Alliance. The Callistos accept the mission and Watson informs them that Titus is on his way to the Stellosphere in a SpaceGuard cruiser. Admiral Crick wakes up just as the transmission ends. The Callistos know they can complete this mission.
They then clean up and tidy up every part of the Stellosphere, but Miles and M.E.R.C. find Leo's workshop messed up. They suggest that the I.O.T.A. could help, but it continues behaving badly, interrupting the rest of the family's progress. Loretta assumes that the behavior is because of a glitch it has. The Callistos plan to catch the I.O.T.A. before it causes more havoc, but have no luck in doing so. Stella then informs everyone that the SpaceGuard cruiser has arrived. Phoebe tells Leo to meet him and also tells Miles, Loretta, and M.E.R.C. to clean up as much as they can and stop the I.O.T.A.
In the Stellosphere's hangar, Phoebe and Leo question if Titus is as bad as they say when Titus talks about the space tunnel being a disaster and the red carpet he sees completely crooked. Phoebe and Leo then take Titus to the ship's living room and kitchen. So far, Titus does not see the I.O.T.A. or a mess. However, when the I.O.T.A. sits on a chair that Titus wants to sit in, Miles uses M.E.R.C. to be the chair instead. Titus wonders if he has something to eat, and Phoebe suggests having spotted mudpods for lunch.
In the kitchen, Miles and Loretta thought they trapped the I.O.T.A. in one of the containers, and Phoebe tells Loretta to help Leo with lunch and Miles to catch the I.O.T.A. At that time, the I.O.T.A. is creeping up M.E.R.C., and when Miles goes to catch it with his net, he misses and instead catches M.E.R.C. just as Leo informs Titus that his mudpods are ready. Immediately afterwards, M.E.R.C. collapses.
Titus explains that he was unable to eat on the SpaceGuard cruiser because of a microgram of dirt on the galley counter. So far, Titus likes the mudpods, and also explains that his tour of the Alliance was nothing but dull, disgusting, and disorganized, and believes that the Stellosphere is the first place he has been where things look okay. Just as Titus concludes that everything is peaceful, quiet, and calm, Miles catches the I.O.T.A. with his net, but the I.O.T.A. continues to fly out of control, causing Miles to mess up the table and the I.O.T.A. to break free from the net and cause more chaos.
Leo apologizes to Titus for things going haywire, but Titus says that that is what he expected because he could never join the Tomorrowland Alliance. Titus gets plotted with the fastest route home, which completely avoids the black hole in this region, before leaving. Phoebe concludes that Titus will not be joining the Alliance. A short time later, Miles finds Leo in his workshop and wants to talk to him just as Leo fixes the I.O.T.A. Miles feels bad about what happened, and Leo tells him that he was just trying to help. Miles says that the Callistos never failed a mission before, and Leo tells him an important lesson: no one succeeds all the time, and what really matters is what you do after you fail. Afterwards, Stella informs them of an emergency call.
The call is coming from Titus, whose ship is caught in a black hole, and he is only stuck because he did not take the route plotted to him by the Callistos. The family then takes the Stellosphere to the ship, and Leo finds out that the ship is losing power because the intake filter on the astro drive is clogged. Miles decides to use the I.O.T.A. to fix the filter, and although Phoebe disagrees, Leo says that that is what the invention is designed for when it's not messing things up. Loretta suggests on attaching it to one of the probes to send it over, and Phoebe agrees. Miles then steers the probe towards the Fastidian ship, and the I.O.T.A. successfully clears the astro-drive, allowing Titus to reverse the power, causing the ship to escape the black hole's gravitational pull.
Titus apologizes to the Callistos for underestimating them and tells them if there is anything he could do. Phoebe suggests that he joins the Tomorrowland Alliance, and Titus says that although the Callistos are not the most organized aliens, they are somewhat dependable when needed. Titus then says that it is a yes, successfully completing the Callistos' one hundredth mission. The I.O.T.A. then appears, and Phoebe assigns the Callistos with mission one hundred and one: catch the I.O.T.A. again. Titus chases the I.O.T.A., who breaks the holo-screen.
