Charley Brewster is the main protagonist of the 2011 Touchstone Pictures film Fright Night. He is a teenage boy who discovers that his neighbor is a vampire.

Background[]

Charley Brewster lives with his single mother, is dating the hottest girl in school, and has a motorcycle that he is sure is close to getting finished. Unfortunately, this means that he has cut ties with his friend "Evil" Ed Lee who suddenly shows up to tell him that his new neighbor, Jerry Dandridge is a vampire. Charley doesn't want to believe it, but when Ed disappears and the bodies start piling up, Charley must face the danger that is closer to home.

Personality[]

Charley is a laid-back and confident young man who cares for his mother and girlfriend Amy. He is clearly status obsessed, resulting in him becoming slightly egotistical and aggressive towards his friend Ed. When he learns of Jerry's true intentions, he starts becoming more cautious and careful and even displays a more thoughtful approach at trying to outwit Jerry. He takes on a more heroic persona and even becomes regretful over how he treated his friends in the past.

Trivia[]

  • In the original film, Charley was played by William Ragsdale and was portrayed as being much more jumpy and aggressive. He would blatantly tell people that Jerry was a vampire and was truly convinced that Peter Vincent was a real vampire hunter. He openly embraced his love of monsters and horror, which would explain his more upfront approach to defeating Jerry.
  • He apparently owns a Stretch Armstrong doll that belonged to Edward Lee. Ed claimed that he used it to "jerk off" and hasn't returned it yet.
  • He is a closeted Farscape fan.
  • Charley's shoes are frequently described as being puce. However, puce is a pale pinkish color, and his shoes are a darker red shade.
