Charon is a minor character from Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He is the Deimon of transition and the Ferryman of the Underworld, tasked by Hades to pass the dead across the river Styx with his boat to the afterlife albeit only if they have coins with them and are truly deceased.

Charon takes his job seriously and is a stickler to the rules. He will fulfill his duty of passing souls across and will not allow the living walk across two and will even summon Cerberus if the rules are broken. He is also known to be somewhat greedy, expecting a coin as payment to let people pass.
Physical appearance[]
Charon is a dark and clothed figure with pale white skin and dark robes like many popular depictions of the deity.
Powers and abilities[]
As the Deimon of transition, he can pass deceased souls to the afterlife through his boat. He has a whistle that can summon Cerberus to punish rulebreakers. It's possible that he can also manipulate fire.
Role in the series[]
The Lightning Thief[]
Charon appears at the gate of the Underworld waiting for new souls to pass across. There he meets the very much still alive Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood wanting to pass the gates as well. Enraged over this he blows his whistle and sends Cerberus after them.
Trivia[]
- In the books, Charon wears a tuxedo as he has a great liking to them. It is also the reason he allows them to pass across.
- The actor that played him in the movie is the same that plays Procrustes in the show.
