"Chicken or Fish?" is the second episode of the first season of Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero. It premiered on February 13, 2015.
Synopsis[]
Penn, Boone, and Sashi are zapped into an underwater world to save a society of fish people, but their mission gets complicated when Penn finds out that Boone is afraid of water.
Plot[]
The episodes starts with Penn, Sashi, and Boone going into The Odyssey and Penn stops at the entrance to bump into each other and then laugh. Phyllis compliments them and Penn thanks her but she tells them she was talking to her pets: a frog and a scorpion, who are then eaten by a spider hiding underground. The Multi-Universe Transprojector's portal opens, revealing the world for the next mission; an oceanic city, called Oceanaquariopolis, populated by fish people. Boone watches the world in fear, foreshadowing his fear of water, before he and his friends get zapped in.
Two Oceanaquariopolitans wonder where the prince went as one of them says the prince will never abandon the city. The prince is seen putting his stuff inside a clam-shaped package and travels away, before Penn possesses him. Penn encounters Sashi, now as a seahorse-like soldier, and tells her to announce the mission: they have to unlock the trident to protect Oceanaquariopolis from the octopus people. Sashi asks Penn if he is paying attention and he says he is.
The Oceanaquariopolitans all swim in circles in fear as the octopus people approach, with Rippen being the leader. One of the Oceanaquariopolitans tells Penn they heard he fled and he negates it, accidentally calling him a "seamaiden". He tells him he is a man. Penn then tells him he was talking to the other Oceanaquariopolitan, who then tells him he is a man too. Sashi tells them to give him the trident and they tell her they can't because it is sealed with a magical enchantment and that only the Wise One can open it.
Penn notices the ringing sound and wonders where does that sound comes from. The two Oceanaquariopolitans both point to a clam-shaped phone attached to his tail. Penn opens the phone and sees Boone, who is the Wise One, singing in the beach. Penn tells him he is going to fight octopus people. Boone tries to say goodbye to Penn as he covers the screen with his chela and Penn tells him that he needs to get down. Boone excuses himself saying he is doing "important wiseman stuff", as he builds a sandcastle, and tells him he is the hero and that he can handle the mission himself. Boone pretends the phone is malfunctioning by producing sounds from his mouth before tossing the phone into the ocean. However, the thrown phone impacts on Penn. Looking at where the phone came from, he finds out where Boone is and tells Sashi to guard the trident.
As Penn swims up to the surface, he gets his head stuck on a jellyfish. Meanwhile, Sashi asks the Oceanaquariopolitans who is hungry for calamari, which an Oceanaquariopolitan tells her his father-in-law is a calamari. Sashi tells them it is just an expression as they tell her they haven't never heard of it.
Boone is making a coconut boat that he puts on his sandcastle's river and Penn, now have reached the surface, asks him if that is the "important wiseman stuff" he talked about. Boone tells him that his sand sculpture of himself, having muscles, riding a car is also important. Penn orders him to get underwater to unlock the trident and Boone asks him who is going to eat all the palmtree's bananas once he gets underwater. Penn angrily tells him their mission is not about eating bananas and Boone tells him it should be as he is good at eating bananas.
Penn is then called by Sashi, who asks her how is going down there. Sashi, fighting octopus people, tells him Oceanaquariopolitans make the worst army as they cowardly swim away from the octopus people. Rippen, leading the octopus army, is distracted by Larry, who is a Colossal squid, who talks about unrelated things. Penn is then seen dragging Boone to the ocean and he runs away in fear. Penn asks him is he is afraid of water and he negates it, so he rises his tail and slowly moves it towards Boone, who screams in fright and then finally admits that he is afraid of water. Penn tells him why he didn't tell him and he says it is embarrassing and that he never took showers and baths. Penn asks him how did he cleaned himself as a flashback shows Boone cleaning himself with baby wipes, causing Penn to laugh. Penn then tells Boone he is going to help him conquer his fear of water. A montage then shows up showing Penn (unsuccessfully) trying conquer Boone's fear in various ways, such as using geysers, making water splashes and using water spray.
Sashi is seen fighting the octopus people as Rippen maliciously laughs, being close to win. He then announces they are going to win but he is interrupted by Larry, who does some sort of high-five with his tentacles and ends up high-fiving with all of his tentacles. Penn sees one of the jellyfishes and uses one of them to cover Boone so he doesn't get wet. Sashi gets surrounded by the octopus people, but, luckily, she soon sees Penn and Boone descending to the trident and she goes after them. Rippen and Larry get their tentacles tangled up as he sees the heroes approach the trident and orders Larry to let him go, accidentally launching him towards the seaweed Penn uses to bring Boone towards the trident, cutting it. Penn and Sashi see Boone being carried away by the jellyfish and tells him that he has to swim to unlock the trident, but Boone refuses to do so and he is told by Penn that he believes in him. Boone still refuses to do so and Penn calls him, causing Boone to get angry, accidentally cutting ripping the jellyfish apart with his chela and exposing himself to water. However, Boone finds out he can swim and goes to the trident to unlock it. Penn and Sashi free themselves as he uses the trident to launch the octopus people away by summoning a whirlpool. Penn and his friends are seen on the throne as he is given a collar of flowers by an Oceanaquariopolitan, who he tells her "good man" until she tells him she is a lady, ending the episode.
