Chief St. Cloud is a supporting character in the 1987 Touchstone Pictures film Ernest Goes to Camp.
Background[]
Personality[]
Chief St. Cloud is a highly enigmatic and quiet individual. Despite not speaking much, especially since he only speaks Kikakee language and not English, he is full of wisdom and has keen insight with people. He is easily fooled however, mainly due to Sherman Krader taking advantage of Ernest P. Worrell's ineptitude. He sticks to the old traditions and has no interest in modern materialistic things such as money, instead preferring to live a simple life.
Trivia[]
- Chief St. Cloud is of Kikakee descent, with Nurse St. Cloud claiming that she and her grandfather are the last of their people. In real life, Iron Eyes Cody was not Native American in the slightest, but Italian (his real name is Espera Oscar de Corti). Nevertheless, he insisted that he was Native American, all the way until his death.
- This was Iron Eyes Cody's final acting role before his death. He was actually in the hospital for an illness and snuck out to the set, only for director John Cherry to tell him to go and wait to be released.
- Chief St. Cloud is only credited as 'Old Indian Chief' in the credits. When Sherman Krader confronts him, he calls him 'Wind Cloud', though this could've been a mistake on Krader's part.
