Christmas...Again?! is a holiday Disney Channel Original Movie, starring Scarlett Estevez. It was directed by Andy Fickman, produced by Betsy Sullenger, and written by Doan La. It premiered on December 3, 2021 on Disney Channel.

Synopsis[]

Rowena "Ro" (Estevez), a high-spirited 11-year-old, is hoping to add more spunk to her Christmas celebrations when her parents' (Sunjata and Carra) divorce is going anything but smoothly. Hoping to get things back to the way they were before her father's new girlfriend and her son entered the scene, she makes a wish to a tall Santa. However, her Christmas wish goes awry as she finds herself living the same day over and over again. Stuck in this endless loop, she must learn to love her new blended family and learn the true meaning of Christmas.[1]

Filming was already underway in November 2020 in Chicago, Illinois and wrapped on December 23, 2020.[3]

Trivia[]

  • The movie takes inspiration from the 1993 film Groundhog Day.
    • The song "Jingle Bells" playing at the start of every day of the time loop is similar to Phil's radio playing "I Got You Babe".
    • Rowena repeatedly trying to destroy her radio is reminiscent of Phil repeatedly killing himself, only to come out alive when the loop restarts.
  • This is the first Christmas Disney Channel Original Movie in ten years, preceded by Good Luck Charlie, It's Christmas!
  • The film was added to Disney+ on December 3, 2021, the same day as the premiere on Disney Channel.[4]
  • The soundtrack was released on December 3, 2021.
  • The film scored 530,000 viewers on its Disney Channel premiere.[5]
  • This is the fourth Disney Channel Original Movie to feature a Hispanic protagonist after Gotta Kick It Up!, Princess Protection Program, and Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie.
  • This is the first Disney Channel Original Movie to feature an LGBTQ+ couple kissing onscreen.
    • However, this is the second Disney Channel Original Movie to feature LGBTQ+ representation, after Under Wraps.
