"Citizen McGee" is the first segment of the sixteenth episode of the Disney Channel animated series, The Ghost and Molly McGee.
Synopsis[]
When Molly’s "Mayor for a Day" contest win turns into a "Mayor for Life" gig she struggles under the pressure.
Plot[]
Molly puts a campaign out to become "Mayor for a Day" and wins, presumably because no one else wanted it, and a ceremony is held where she is sworn in via turnip by Mayor Brunson. He informs her that he inherited the position from his mother, grandfather, great-grandmother and great-great grandfather and that it has been emotionally taxing for him, especially since their ghosts, whom only Molly can see, watch his every move. Because of this, he decides to take a permanent vacation and leave all the duties to Molly due to her passion. While reluctant, Darryl and Scratch convince Molly to take the position and becomes empowered when she dons her blazer, which she apparently keeps at all times.
Molly puts forth her effort to "enhappify" Brighton and agrees on a suggestion to cover the town with pancakes and syrup giant slip-n-slide combo for everyone to enjoy. The plan works, though it immediately begins to fall apart when hungry horseflies suddenly get drawn to the syrup and start attacking the townspeople. This is made much worse when all the food disappears and they stay in Brighton. Needing the real mayor back, Molly and Scratch search for Brunson and eventually found him, now going by "Stu" and running a cotton candy cart which he claims is his new passion. However, he lacks the knowledge to run it and it somehow explodes in his face; leaving him feeling dejected. Molly gets the idea to get help from the past mayors and forces Scratch to get them.
Brunson suddenly finds himself confronted by the previous mayors who sing to him about taking the mayoral position back as despite it being a very stressful job, it is the one thing he has the knowledge and experience for. Passing off the event as a dream, Brunson resumes being mayor and gets rid of the horseflies by attracting them to his cotton candy. With everything back to normal, Brunson gives Molly some encouragement. Being that he is the last Brunson, he will one day need to find someone to replace him. Despite Molly's lack of experience now, she has the passion and he tells her that she should hold onto it and increase her abilities until she is ready one day.
