- The title is a reference to "Clan of the Cave Bear", an installment in Jean M. Auel's Earth's Children novel series.
- The scene of Caveman Goof being inspired to invent the wheel is based on the Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The music during said sequence is based on Richard Strauss' "Thus Spoke Zarathusta", which would later see use in both Toy Story 2 and WALL-E.
- This episode marks one of the few times in the series that some version of Goofy would wear his signature hat from the classic shorts.
