"Clarisse Blows Up Everything" is the twelfth episode of the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It was released on December 24, 2025, and is the fourth episode of season two.
Synopsis[]
Quests collide as our crew voyages into the perilous Sea of Monsters.
Plot[]
In flashback throughout the episode, Annabeth recalls traveling with Luke and Thalia Grace, the daughter of Zeus. Luke had gifted Annabeth a cheap plastic bracelet from a cereal box, claiming it is from the Goddess "Kellogia", for protection. They soon run into Grover who was assigned to be their protector. While Luke and Thalia allow Grover to join them, they refuse his offer of going to Camp Half-Blood with him, despite his warning that the longer they stay out, the more likely monsters are to come for them.
Annabeth wanders off and gets caught by Cyclopes who take her to their hideout. The group eventually go and rescue her from them. Realizing that being on the road is no longer safe, Thalia and Luke agree to help Grover take Annabeth to Camp Half-Blood. While closing in on camp, several furies arrive and Thalia stays behind so that Annabeth, Grover, and Luke can get to camp. The fight ended with Thalia sacrificing her life for them, becoming the tree that protects the camp. Annabeth has since blamed her inability to help for Thalia's fate.
In the present, Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson stop to a safe area where Annabeth collects some belongings, including the bracelet, from Luke's old hiding spot. Their boat is blown up by the arrival of Clarisse who refuses their help and instead plans to have them face punishment (she insists that her undead army can help her navigate the Sea of Monsters). Percy challenges Clarisse to a fight, allowing a distraction so that Annabeth can "kill" Clarisse's important members. With no other choice, she allows the three to join her crew.
Upon approaching the Sea of Monsters, Annabeth suggests taking on Scylla over Charybdis as that is who Odysseus chose on his journey. The task would require losing more men. Clarisse admits that she feels guilty about doing so as she promised the undead soldiers a chance to go to Elysium, a decision that can only be made by the Gods. While Annabeth admits that she is uncertain of her choice, Percy believes it is the right one because of her wisdom. Tyson gets to work on the engines while Percy discovers he can accurately note their position in the ocean.
Percy talks it out with Clarisse, the latter of whom wonders how he manage to accomplish his quest last year (his friends helped him). This prompts Clarisse to reveal that her prophecy from the Oracle states that she is to "fail without friends". She reluctantly asks her men for support (not telling them Annabeth's plan) and becomes guilty when they all become readily available to put their lives on the line.
The plan to go through Scylla seems to work, but Clarisse backs out at the last minute in fear for her men, and instead decides to take Charybdis head on. Percy utilizes his ability to control the ocean, while Tyson fuels the ship, and Annabeth runs to get the wind thermos. The storm proves to be too much and Annabeth drops the thermos within the ship. A cyclone proceeds to form around, as the ship and crew are torn apart and Percy and his friends fall into the eye of the storm.

Book comparisons[]
- When Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson reach land, they end up in a swamp where they encounter a pristine place called Monster Donut, only to get attacked by the Hydra. This entire section is removed and is instead turned into a visual cameo in Annabeth's flashback. Monster Donut is now a cereal brand with a cute cartoon drawing of a Hydra on the box.
- In the book, Clarisse "rescues" Percy, Annabeth and Tyson from the Hydra and takes them on her ship out of obligation. In the series, she indirectly attacks them and only brings them along with Annabeth sneakily "kills" her important officers.
- Much of the planning in the book comes from Clarisse, with her directly planning to go straight through Charybdis. The series changes it to Annabeth making the plan with them trying to face Scylla, only for Clarisse to choose Charybdis out of fear for her crew.
- The series has Clarisse be deeply troubled by some of her decisions in an effort to live up to Ares's standards. This makes her more vulnerable and sympathetic. In the book, Clarisse continues to put on a tough front, but gets an Iris message from Ares, that only mildly hints at her troubles.
- Percy doesn't have another synchronized dream with Grover.
- Clarisse doesn't tell Percy and his friends about her oracle reading until near the end of their adventure.
- The way the ship explodes differs in both versions. In the book, Charybdis causes the ship to push its limits and it explodes while Percy is still in the air while battling Scylla. As he falls, he is pushed upward by the wind of the thermos before crashing into the water. The series changes it to the thermos being the cause of the ship exploding, while sending everyone flying into a cyclone.
- The series has Thalia and Luke trying to avoid Camp Half-Blood, only to change their mind when Annabeth is in danger. In the book, Camp Half-Blood was their ultimate destination to begin with.
Trivia[]
- The title comes from the eleventh chapter of The Sea of Monsters, while the episode adapts that chapter and the remainder of chapter ten.
- Leah Sava Jeffries cried after filming the scene where Walker Scobell/Percy says "Lets do the impossible".[1]
