Club Penguin Island was a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game for PC, Mac, Android and iOS. It was the successor to Club Penguin. The mobile version of the game was released worldwide on March 29, 2017.
The game's public beta testing period took place in Australia and New Zealand from December 15, 2016 to its worldwide release, and in Canada from January 13, 2017 to its worldwide release.
On November 30, 2017 a PC/Mac version of the game was launched alongside with the 1.8 update.
The game's announcement, along with the closure of the original Club Penguin, upset many players of the original. Club Penguin Island garnered mostly negative user reviews upon its worldwide release. The 1.8 update received positive reviews for adding fan-requested features and a PC/Mac version of the game.
The servers for the game shutdown on December 20, 2018. The game can still played but on the offline version
Club Penguin Island was first mentioned by Spike Hike in 2014 under the codename "Project Super Secret" and described as the "next big thing for CP and beyond". Its final name, Club Penguin Island, was revealed on November 16, 2016. Pre-registration began on the same day, allowing players to pre-register their new penguin name and linking their Club Penguin Island account to an account from the original Club Penguin. Pre-registration ended on March 29, 2017.
A closed beta took place in North America until December 2016. Shortly after the closed beta ended, a geo-beta was available in Australia and New Zealand. The geo-beta was expanded to Canada for iOS devices on January 13, 2017. The geo-beta ended on March 29, 2017.

On September 27, 2018, Disney confirmed in a letter to Disney Canada, obtained by the website Kotaku, that Club Penguin Island would be shutting down. Disney HR cited "global competition" as a factor in their decision.
On October 12, 2018, the shutdown date was confirmed to be December 20, 2018. The two last parties were also announced, being the Halloween Party 2018 and Waddle On Party. The Mobile App was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on November 20, 2018.
Since the shutdown of the game's servers on December 20, 2018, an offline mode is available allowing players to use most of the game's functions indefinitely. Offline Mode does not feature Daily Challenges, Multiplayer Minigames, Crate Co. or Daily Catalog Challenges.
