Coach Roberts is a minor character in Disney•Pixar's 2024 animated feature film Inside Out 2. She is a hockey coach who is also the head of the Hockey Camp where Riley Andersen and her friends Bree Young and Grace Hsieh attend.
Personality[]
At first glance, Coach Roberts seems laid-back and polite, showing great respect for Riley's talent at hockey and inviting her and her friends to attend her hockey camp before Riley attends high school.
At the camp however, Roberts proves to be a lot more strict and no-nonsense, often laying into the students when they goof-off, act-out, or whenever they make a foul move, as shown when she confiscates the students cell-phones, makes them do laps when Riley and her friends joke about Roberts or when she puts Riley in the penalty box after she pushes Grace across the ice field, due to her being controlled by Anxiety.

Coach Roberts first appears at the beginning of the film inviting Riley, Bree and Grace to the hockey camp. Riley accepts in hopes of earning a spot on the Firehawks, a high-school hockey team who Riley idolizes. When she next appears at the camp the next day, she notices that Riley, Bree and Grace are making faces into their cellphones, prompting her to confiscate the cell-phones of every students and when she overhears the three rookies gossiping about her, she makes all of the students do laps. This earns Riley the ire of the rest of the hockey students (most notably, the Firehawks). Roberts is oblivious to the fact that Joy caused Riley to act this way in hopes of Riley having fun at the camp, but the resulting dressing down by Roberts made Joy feel embarrassed.
After that, Roberts became a lot less involved in the movie, with only two scenes giving her some kind of relevance. The first is when Anxiety manipulates Riley into breaking into her office to peer inside her journal where she keeps track of the students to see if she's Firehawk Material. Despite minimal interference from Sadness who tries to make Riley concede to her better judgement, Anxiety manages to succeed in her notion and make Riley peek inside the journal, but sees that the Coach doesn't consider Riley good enough. Roberts' second integral appearance is near the end where she sends Riley to the penalty box for slamming into Grace during the last day of camp.
She does not appear for the rest of the film after this.
