The Condor[1] is a character from the animated segment Pedro, the second animated segment of the Disney film Saludos Amigos.
Background[]
Physical appearance[]
The condor particularly has black plumage all over his body. He also has a black tail, a yellow beak, an un feathered red head, a white ruff located below his short neck, gray wingtips, and two yellow legs with three talons sticking out.
Appearances[]
Saludos Amigos[]
The condor appears during the scene when Pedro flies at Mendoza to retrieve the mail. As he is on his way back to home, he receives an unexpected encounter with a condor and squawks at him just before using his tail on his propeller and then flies away, leading him en route to a physical fierce argument. This, however, distracts Pedro as he follows the condor by interpreting him as an enemy with Pedro pretending to be a plane armed with a weapon, which he forgot his responsibility in returning the mail to his family during his argument with the condor. Just as Pedro chased the condor, he suddenly lost track of him in the dense fog (who does not appear again afterwards) and then finds himself facing Aconcagua. However, Pedro managed to return back in time safe from the big storm.
Trivia[]
- Despite being referred to as a condor in some public materials such as the Encyclopedia of Walt Disney's Animated Characters or some storybook adaptations of Pedro, the plumage on his head closely resembles that of a turkey vulture. Both species, the condor and turkey vulture, are part of the Cathartidae genus in real life.
- In some book adaptations of Pedro such as the Walt Disney's Story Land entry, the condor was described being a giant bird. Yet in the short itself, the condor is not as big as Pedro and is much the same size as him.
