Connie Benge[3] is one of Doug's friends in Disney's Doug.
Personality[]
Like Doug, Connie is a cutie pie and sweet and naive. At times, she can be a bit emotional as well. She usually hangs out with Patti and Beebe, and appears to be Beebe's closest friend. In the Disney series, she is also shown to be a very talented musician, and once won a music contest.
In the Nickelodeon series, Connie's been shown to have a crush on Doug, however he does not return any of her feelings (he even told a lie to get out of going to a dance with her), and only considers her a friend. According to an issue of Disney Adventures magazine, she also has a crush on Roger. Her feelings towards Doug are still slightly hinted at in the Disney series. She is also noticeably more confident and outgoing in the Disney series than in the Nickelodeon series, where she was depicted a sweet but insecure girl who was also something of a crybaby. One of her faults is being a gossip, as shown in "Doug's Bloody Buddy" when she spreads a rumor about Skeeter being a vampire.
Connie has a small role in Doug's 1st Movie, only appearing alongside Beebe in three scenes. She's the one who tells Doug about how no one's helping out with the Valentine's Dance, prompting him to sign up to volunteer.
Trivia[]
- Her appearance had a slightly drastic and noticeable change in the Disney series. Originally, she was chubby (in her own words, "big boned"), though her plus-sized figure was never a big deal; she was just a friend of Doug's who happened to be a little curvier. However, in the Disney series, she became very skinny, as she and her mom both visited a beauty camp during the summer in between the last episode of the Nick series and the first episode of the Disney series. She also now wears earrings, a headband and white go-go boots. Her change in appearance was so drastic that Doug didn't recognize her at first when he first saw her in the Disney series premiere (and Porkchop even catcalled at her).
- She also originally had blonde hair in season one of the Nickelodeon series, which was changed to her more familiar blue hair with season two.
- In "Doug's Disappearing Dog", she appears in Beebe's flashback in her original design. Her original design can also be briefly glimpsed in the first Disney episode in a sketch Doug drew of her.
- Apparently in "Doug's Chubby Buddy", she forgot she used to be fat. However, between herself, Beebe and Patti, she's the only one with a healthy approach to weight loss, which involves eating the right food, whereas Patti starves herself and Beebe gorges on junk.
